Re: Other Creativity

I recently took up practicing Хөөмий (Khöömii) again. I haven't sung for years, and I don't think I ever learned how to do Kargyraa … Anyway, here's an attempt at Sygyt: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6860728/Sygyt.mp3 I'm nowhere near as good as this though … and I doubt I'll ever be. That's really inter...

Re: Other Creativity

I wanted to write a book... but I was too lazy... so I wrote a program... to write a book for me! The program (written in vb.net) isn't very good and it's still in beta stage. ... I was just a little bit bored, so I wrote the same program in Javascript. var words = { noun: ["preposition",...

Translation Chain 3

You all should know how it works by now. Post the languages you can translate from and into if you wish to participate.

Out of curiosity, why is Arabic listed as so much harder to learn than Hebrew, when all the reasons why listed are also true of Hebrew?

Re: Translation Chain 2 - keep checking the first post

Here is Ossicone's translation: En la imagen hay tres personas. Ellos sonríen y leen un libro. Creo que estudian una guía. Les interese mucho. Al fondo hay muchas imágenes. Creo que están buscando una galería de arte o un museo. Hay un hombre, una mujer y un niño. Creo que el hombre y la mujer tiene...

Re: Typing in your Conlangs

Does it make a noticeable difference? I've read several places saying that the Dvorak keyboard doesn't actually increase typing speed much.

Re: Translation Chain Game (Check First Post For Updates)

"they who poison and find themselves, must promise they didn't commit adultery."

I basically tried to translate this as "whoever poisons himself must promise he didn't commit adultery." I thought that was a rather strange religious commandment.

Re: Translation Chain Game (Check First Post For Updates)

Sure, that was fun. Let's do it again! --- Now some things make more sense. I was wondering what "fraternal marital house" meant. I think it's funny how Ossicone made the "defiled himself with an unworthy woman" so much less euphemistic. I also laughed at the switch from "ac...

Re: Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

In languages, like Spanish, where some verbs are always used in the reflexive form, how do you communicate reflexiveness? That question by itself probably didn't make anu sense, so here is an example. Let us suppose I want to say "I want to marry myself" in Spanish. The first thing that co...
