Re: What did you accomplish today?

On the day that ended an hour ago, I created the alphabet for Vlchichi, the state language of the vlcheks of Adzhetyom, and named all 35 letters. Numerals and punctuation will have to wait until another day. I created several equivalents to "overm-" words (overmark, overmatter, overmelt, o...

Re: Are you a hunter-gatherer or a farmer?

Economic strategies aren't necessarily exclusive of each other - e.g. the mixed strategy in pre-20cen Appalachia combining agriculture (of corn, distilled into whiskey and thus used as both a trade good and a local medium of exchange) and hunting and gathering (esp. of medicinal plants for global e...

Re: False cognates

Are you sure that these aren't true cognates? They could be both from PIE *swopnos , but I don't know. I'd checked Wiktionary before posting and сон comes from *supnós , sono from *swépnos , and sonho from *swópniom . However, I've taken a deeper look now and it seems all of these PIE words come fr...

3. Roba
4. Robt
5. Roble
6. Rovde
7. Rovg
8. Rovhye
9. Rovpo
10. Rovro

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I thought of “apoduran”. I must have misspelled “-durian”, omitting the <i >. I don’t know the names of enough conlangs! …. This riddles a/o jokes subthread should probably be split, and maybe put in a different subforum. What does "apoduran" mean? I can't find it online. Were you thinkin...

In the English word <scent>, which letter is silent? The <s> or the <c>? I think of the SC as more like a double letter -- like the TT in "little", the SS in "glass", the CK in "black", the TCH in "match", or the "DG" in "bridge".

Bor(e)-durian?
You've got the second part right. This isn't Hergé, though. Hint: think German prefixes.

And so, in the same way where if we study our own bodies and how our body functions we are able to come to an understanding of our own selves and our own human nature, likewise, by studying the physical cosmos [the body of the Brahmana] and the natural laws which governs it, we are, by way of Yahtu...

Just redid the two posts with the Master Species List. I have 3,933 items now. It was nice to add in all the creatures (and higher taxa) from the vlchek and biwi bioswath(s), and add some new sapient words. Also created the pacwao (monkey-like creatures with four squid-like legs and two arms from th...

I'm fewer than 500 words away from the 80K milestone. (Named all the species in the vlchek/biwi bioswath today. The vlcheks live on the planet Adzhetyom in the solar system Byudzhik; the biwis live on the planet Qurrquai in the solar system Sring. After naming the species and breeds, higher taxa, pl...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

So... I know what an areal feature is, and I have known so for many years. However, I was today years old when I learnt, or rather realized, that areal doesn't derive from "not really a feature" (a-real) but from "caused by close vicinity" (area-l). I'd say that counts as the ac...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I just finished a multi-hour-long session of drawing 325 species/breeds (counting the kmida (cat-analogue) and styucha (dog-analogue) breeds separately) of life-forms in the indigo plant bioswath, including the two sapient species, vlcheks and biwis!

My task tomorrow is to name them all!
