Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I just googled "Mickey D's" and found this online listicle apropos to our conversation: https://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-nickname-in-10-countries-2016-12 Can anyone picture, say, Avril Lavigne or Justin Bieber saying "McDick's"? McDick's is a telling name, because it has not one but two /ɪk...

Re: Caste Systems in Conworlds

A few months ago, I had a dream wherein I created a caste system for a conworld wherein the letter before your name, when you were addressed, indicated where you fit in the caste system. I'll get into that dream later. I'd love to read about it! All right, first, so everyone knows, this was an intr...

According to https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/half-assed, this theory is agreed upon by the Online Etymology Dictionary.

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread

So my friend who has the corpus had said he'd complete an updated list of the 30,000 most common words once his corpus reached 190 million running words, or "tokens". It turned out one of the subcorpora got so unexpectedly large that he's now going to call the corpus finished once it reaches 210 mil...

I notice this too with names beginning with "Mc". Many people say what to my ears sounds like /mɪk/, as in "MickDonalds" (even the parody name "SickDonalds" reflects that pronunciation). I seem to say /mək/ or as close to it as I can. I'm not saying I'm better, I'm just noticing /ɪ/ in places where...

I drew the animals (the non-sapient animals) in the tetramantoid bioswath. Tetramantoids are like these guys : an insectoid anatomy, look like praying mantises, but only have four limbs. Also, I finally named the linguae francae of Nexon and Pluos. Although I knew what the languages "sounded" like (...

The Canon (which I usually associate with funerals, btw, rather than weddings...) isn't so much imitation as just... a popular piece of music. Heh, I have this friend named Jolene who's always taking about how she loves tacos and wanting to stop at Taco Bell. I sometimes tell this joke: Q: What pie...

So today I was checking out the music of Chumbawamba, beyond "Tubthumping" (which is the one Chumbawamba song that Americans all know). I came across this title, and I had to share it with the people on this board.

What do you mean? 3,900 is far larger than most conlangs ever get in lexicon. When I was talking about the size of Kankonian's and Shaleyan's lexicons in the Lexicon Milestones thread , people were saying things like: "Good job. My conlangs have 7-10 words each." I guess I have seen more conlangers...
