Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Using a word gen, having troubles deciding what order of frequency my phonemes should be in. Learned that phoneme distributions tend to follow a Yule-Simon distribution pattern. So I have a bunch of questions whose answers i think will give me insight on what to do: 1) Would sonorants/resonants be ...

Re: Latin questions (Lingua latina)
EDIT: fwiw, I'm not sure whether we need a new thread every time somebody wants to complain about an argument they had on wikipedia or the like! The reason I created a new thread was because the primary purpose of my last post was to find out how to say "if there, not here" in Latin. You ...

Re: Latin questions (Lingua latina)
I am doing a write-up on a text on logical fallacies published in Ciladian in Ancient Ciladia (a country that once existed on Kankonia). There's one I'd like to give a Latin name to, in addition to its Ciladian name, but am not too sure about. This fallacy I want to call a Classical Latin translatio...

Wow. I was wondering if you were from South Africa, since your screenname had an Afrikaans ring to it.hecd us en iursunonf wrote: ↑12 Apr 2024 17:09 My native language is Zulu

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread
Well, I assume you mean that the different projects that you and I have worked on likely reflect our different preferences as conlangers. [:)] Not just preferences, but styles . For one example: when you created Hannaito words for last year's Lexember, one of the things I noticed was that every wor...

Re: Lexicon milestones and discussion of lexicon growth
Interesting. Are interspecies relationships uniformly accepted in the Lehola Galaxy, or are there some cultures where they're frowned upon, or forbidden? Really socially liberal cultures like the Kankonian or Shaleyan wouldn't have any problem with them . . . the galaxy as a whole when it comes to ...

Re: Lexicon milestones and discussion of lexicon growth
Today I came up with the concept of tyashusial orientation for the Lehola Galaxy. Tyashus is the Ciladian word for "race", and it's used in modern Kankonian to mean what species of sapient someone is (human, Grey, Domehead, ilti, lef, wama, etc.) (The Kankonian word for "race", y...

The user formerly known as "shimobaatar". (she) Congratulations on your new name! Is it pronounced like "zymurgy" (with /ai/), or like "Zima" (with /i/)? Caber is going to need a new word. You're referring to łímo ? That’s in CT. Common Caber has śimo ‘friend’ and śimo...

Re: Thinking machine
(Or at least to imagine one; planning a creative piece is much easier and more enjoyable than the grueling task of producing it...) (Not that it's not fun to write! Just hard sometimes.) Writing The Bittersweet Generation was like that. It was hard work, but I actually had fun writing each of the s...

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread
I've just received a list of 60,913 words (the lemmata that occurred 7 or more times in my friend's corpus) through the email. Yay! Expect Kankonian's lexicon to start growing very rapidly. Just noticed this when the wordlist is sorted by frequency: 611 goodbye 54178 0.0002 612 newyork 54091 0.0002...

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread
Indeed. Sorry, it wasn't my intention to imply that you hadn't considered the fact that Kankonian is your conlang. Again, I can understand where you're coming from, and of course, the choice is ultimately yours. I didn't mean to imply that you were implying that! Although Hannaito and Kankonian don...

In fact, just last night, I was considering naming my unabridged dictionary of the Kankonian language (if I ever go about publishing it) Zima's Unabridged Kankonian Dictionary . But today I get on and discover that you've changed your screenname to Zyma, I've decided I probably shouldn't use that, ...
