I’ll have to think about that! Too much of my poem will seem to be plagiarizing yours!

Re: Interesting features of natlangs that can be used in your conlangs

Good question! Some natlangs have clause-chaining. And some have shared-reference tracking. (Same-or-different place, same-or-different time, same-or-different agent, same-or-different patient, etc.) Reference-tracking is particularly useful in clause-chains. I liked the combination, so I’m includin...

Info-Dumping and ADHD

(Maybe this should go in the “You” thread?) Now that I know I have both ADHD and ASD, I have been viewing as many YouTube videos as I can find, by people who share one or the other or both (especially both!) of those disorders. One YouTuber with ADHD mentioned waking her (neurotypical) partner up i...

I just now figured out that, on this thread,
SCA stands for Sound Change Applier,
not for Society for Creative Anachronism.

But for that, I would have no accomplishment to report!

Re: Calendars (for Earth and for conworlds)

Adpihi's calendar is a lunisolar calendar. It has days, months, and years. Months are either 29 days long or 30 days long. Years are either 12 months long or 13 months long. A 12-month year may be 354 days long (if it has 6 29-day months and 6 30-day months) or 355 days long (if it has 5 29-day mon...

Re: Calendars (for Earth and for conworlds)

@Sangi39: I worked out a similar (up to a point) lunisolar calendar for my conworlds. Time in that calendar comes in Ages that are 3 Metonic cycles (3*19 = 57 years) long. Unfortunately I can’t find it anymore; or, at least, not quickly! …. The other things you said, that are about other things than...

Re: Why does God need a name?

…. In a monotheistic religion, where it’s believed only one god exists at all (rather that only one is served or worshipped, as in monolatry or henotheism), why does such a god need a name? (Especially in the beginning?) …. [/size] …. For example, Elohim and the Four-Letter Name symbolize His Judge...

Re: Teka: New Romance conlang

Reading this thread gives me anxiety about being "linguistic" enough to still make an actual conlang and not be hounded about it. I'm hoping threads like this are rare... I think you will probably be OK. What your conlang actually does, is way more important than what words you use to des...

Re: River Skasti (new grammar)

I have been meaning to ask this for a while but wasn't sure if I ever would: has there ever been any attested language that has exhibited a tripartite plural system like I use? I have never seen one. When I come up with a new word, I usually try to pronounce it the way my con-speakers would; but I don’t practice it enough.

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

I understand that African-American Vernacular English sometimes(?) drops the copula*, depending on the aspect. Does that count as verb-dropping? In English the copula is a verb. (In several other languages, it’s not a verb.) *(The only example that comes to mind involves telling the addressee where ...
