Re: What did you accomplish today?

My mother used to think a diatom was called a di-atom, as in they only had two atoms in their body. I remember thinking that, but I don’t remember how old I was when I found out it was dia-tom, “across-cut”. I deliberately reanalyze words sometimes for jokes. For instance, in what way is vinegar wi...

I accomplished a lot of leftover RL duties, so now I should have more headspace to devote to conlang and neography and Worldbuilding activities.

Affricates and diphthongs, so far. Maybe I’ll include more later.

Unless it was a translation of a Polish version of it...
My English version is “the bigger they are, the harder they fall”.

Re: Has anyone ever reinvented something for a conworld? (ex: numerical system, religion, music composition, etc)

Recently, I've been wondering if making a more "complete" conworld was a common thing in this hobby. I want to know what people have done in their own conworlds for some inspiration and for ideas as to what I should experiment with. I've only ever tried to make a unique numerical system o...

My only problem with the Graded Sentences for Analysis approach is that the sentences, while good for looking at increasingly …. have to come up with some new vocab) as being happy with what you've got enough that you might tinker, but with no big overhauls It’s true IMHO that it might not be perfe...

Re: Knowing when I'm done making grammar

fiziwig once posted a subset of “Graded Sentences for Analysis” and suggested that if you could gloss all of those sentences into your conlang, then your conlang was effectively “complete”. Or, at least, its grammar was. You might still need some vocabulary; but you probably had all your morphology ...

Just some random statistics, from memory (I’ll have to check in case I’m making errors). See https://wals.info/combinations/26A_81A#2/27.6/153.0 I can’t take the time at the moment to calculate from this, what the median numbers are; I hope you (or someone) can! Languages in general prefer suffixes....

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Nearly anything you are likely to think of is possible . If you’re in doubt, the way to find out is to try to make a conlang with that combination of features. If it turns out you can’t make one that’s usable, it might be impossible; but if you succeed, it’s possible. Some combinations are extremely...
