Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs 2

I'd offer to let you take the next turn, but it sounds like you'd prefer not to, right?
That’s right; and also I really think shimobataar (aka you) deserves it.
But it’s Vaptuantadoi’s question.

Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs 2

... close enough, it's a desalination plant.
I was going to suggest that; but I thought
A) it wouldn’t be fair because I was just guessing and I should let people who’d done all the work have a chance, and
B) if I won what would I do? I don’t have a romlang nor any words to guess in one!

I'll try to let it motivate me rather than make me incredibly jealous.
You can let it do both!

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

How do languages with multiple degrees of past tense emerge? What auxiliary verbs/constructions do they come from? I'm looking to have four past tenses in this new language I'm working on and I'm struggling to understand how such things come about Creyeditor’s response reminded me of this: Look in ...

Re: An eleventh-degree relationship

The basic questions seem to be (or might be): * Is one’s cousin’s cousin kin to one? If so, in what languages/cultures? And what is the proper kinterm, if there is one? * Is one’s in-law’s in-law kin to one? If so, in what languages/culture’s? And what is the proper kinterm, if there is one? ….. I e...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

The contrasts my conlangs Adpihi and Reptigan have in their demonstratives multiply out to 96 possibilities, of which some are probably quite rare. * is the referent within the reach of the speaker, or not? * is the referent within the reach of the addressee, or not? * is the referent visible to the...

Non-Somatic Choices of Systems of Bases for Numerals in NonHuman Conlang

How would you structure your conlang’s numeral system of counting numbers, if your conspeakers didn’t have four limbs, and/or didn’t have five digits per limb, and/or didn’t have three phalanges per digit? In other words, weren’t shaped like humans? …. First let me get this out of the way. I’m just ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I've been trying to learn about reduplication because I'd like to use it in my conlang, but I'm wondering if there much difference cross linguistically for root vs stem reduplication. This is an important distinction in my conlang's case because, being based on Old Japanese, verbs and verbal adject...
