Re: Afrogbe

I forgot the best part—the Nyarafolo system usually doesn’t lead to ambiguity, but occasionally you end up with amusing confusion. The resources the Boeses sent me noted a specific example that, without explicit tone markings, readers with no prior knowledge would be unable to tell whether John the ...

Re: Afrogbe

Thank you for providing us with the IPA! I thought of making an idea like this, a conlang inspired by African languages, but several letters using a dot to spell other phonemes. Which ones in particular? Or are you just going for a generic sense? Named Afrogbe I don’t know if it’s an issue, but ther...

What do you do when a conword happens to match a slur?

Asked this at the Other Place, but figured it’d be beneficial to post here too.

I’ve never (that I know of) had this happen to me in one of my langs, but I could easily see it happening.

I’d like to request a guide to significant grammatical/syntactic/typological change, like how VO becomes OV, or how split or total ergativity develops.

My bad - I thought you said the Caber logograms are a year and a half old; I was about to congratulate them and you on the birthday.

As to the new ones - they're quite nice.
Thank you!

Re: Caber Logograms

How does the grid work? Could you elaborate? So the Caber grid works like this: - The glyphic space proper is square, with twenty-four units therein (plus the starting edge on the left, which is considered zero). - Your first primary division is that of the quadrant. The center point is singled out...

Re: Caber Logograms

https://i.imgur.com/ReNNNIR.png I've standardized how the glyphs are drafted: This is the basic grid on which Caber logograms are drawn. The blue lines are primarily used when you're drawing the head on a person, but they do have other uses (like when compressing a glyph to fit with a phonetic or s...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I have, after a brief consult with The World Lexicon of Grammaticalization , decided that in CT, the causative of status cannot be used to form a standard causative. That is handled with a serial verb construction involving the verb toḫ 'give'. Due to the way SVCs work in CT—pertinently, the verb ph...
