Re: The Esseintial Ch’eweyõw̌e Blog

This is all very cool! A phonology full of "weird" sounds (like clicks and glottalised continuants) often makes me feel lost if it's the first thing I read about the language, but the way you present it is quite easy to understand. I'll definitely follow this thread, thanks for sharing :) ...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

As for the symmetry, you can arrange your inventory like this: /m n/ /p t s k q/ /t’ ts’ k’ q’/ /h ʔ/ /l j w/ Only one gap. And now glottals are their own category. Oh wait, you didn’t have a glottal stop in your original inventory. Add one? I’ll stop interfering now. No, don't [:D] I asked for opi...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

I keep changing my mind about the phonology of this not-so-new project. Right now I have: /m n/ /p t t͡s k q/ /tʼ t͡sʼ kʼ qʼ/ /s h/ /l/ /j w/ /i u/ /e o/ /a/ /e o/ might actually be [ɛ] and [ɔ]. /w/ is [ʍ] before voiceless consonants and at the end of a word. Syllable structure is (C)(wj)V(S) where ...

Re: Proto-Lothopota

I also use double letters for long vowels and don't see a problem with that, it even remineds me to actually pay attention to length. Except that to modern readers of many languages, including English, double vowels already have values, But so do many other symblols and letters! You could also worry...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

It at least appears to have been that way in (Late) Proto-Indo-European: stative verbs ("perfects") are a third category besides imperfective ("present") and perfective ("aorist") verbs. Thanks for the answer! So in that system, how do you describe a state that's in th...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

What are some common ways to handle stative verbs in a language that distinguishes perfective/imperfective? Are they likely to have similar marking to other verbs, with the perfective form meaning "X was in Y state but isn't anymore"? That was what I originally did in Źilaa Ruńu, but I'm n...

Modern Hebrew has both:
/ktana/ 'small(F)'
/tkufa/ 'time period'
We also have /pt/ but not /tp/ (because פ becomes [f] in that position)
