Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

I just want to say thank you, vo1dwalk3r, for the declension tables. I really love the way everything is turning out, especially the irregularities of the noun declensions. You're welcome! It's actually kind of addicting applying the sound changes and seeing how everything turns out. I'll try to ke...

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

Okay, I've set up some declension tables for the various types of nouns show here on Wikipedia. There's a lot of irregularity and complexity to be leveled, which should be fun, but I've left everything intact for now. One thing I will say I like is the differentiation between nouns with accent on th...

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

It seems like vo1dwalk3r and I got some different results. For example, rī́dʒ and íʃwas vs. rī́tʃ and aʃwas. I did make a mistake with íʃwas , but it seems that there is a bit of discrepancy between the Wiktionary and Wikipedia reconstructions. I suggest we stick with what's given on Wiktionary jus...

Oh, right, okay. So this is this affricates + any sonorant, or only affricates + liquids/liquids and nasals? I'd prefer the latter, so we can preserve dʒw.

Yeah, I tend to agree, voting in the thread allows for more flexibility, I think. I'm open to other options though.

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

Definitely assimilate those sibilants, but if we're applying Grassmans Law how can we get θx clusters? Surely the first consonant would deaspirate giving tx ? Oh right, yeah. Hm, Honestly I'd prefer the first glide to undergo fortition, e.g. áwyes > ábyes , ágyes and déywos > dédwos , dédʒwos , tho...

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

So I've been trying to work out the details of genitive phrases and the like in Ȧbhannı. I've ended up with two cases, possessive and partitive, which serve various functions (including those suggested by their names). A little quirk of these cases is that the possessive is head marking (i.e. arm-PO...

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

X. I say we keep θx , but we could do something with sʃ / ʃs . The easiest thing would be to assimilate both to ʃ ( ʃʃ intervocalically). I also propose we do wl wr > ml mr , bl br , gl gr , or alternatively w > v . Ooh, here's another idea: glides fortite(?) to plosives after glides, so áwyes > áwd...

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

Hmm, I'm not sure how I feel about going with my sound change assumptions. They're pretty boring, but if you guys are fine with sticking with them, so am I. Yes, I know what all of those words mean. I should have been more direct about what's unclear to me. I don't know what you mean by "retain...

Agh, I'm way to wishywashy about this kind of stuff. I've decided not to develop Ȧbhannı has an conlang for a conworld but just as a personal language. Maybe once I'm more confident in my skills I'll try my hand at "true" diachronic conlanging. Regardless, my reconstruction of Old Ȧbhannı ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Curious, what do you guys do to come up with interesting semantics? I often struggle to come up with unique, multifaceted and nuanced definitions for my words. I'm also considering them from a historical perspective. I use the conlanger's thesaurus and Wiktionary to help but it's still tricky.

Ok ok, I've finally figured out Old Ȧbhannı (now Haʔpuhannı) phonology and the diachronics to modern Ȧbhannı: /mʲ mˠ nʲ nˠ/ ⟨ ḿ m ń n ⟩ /pʲ pˠ kʲ k ʔ/ ⟨ ṕ p ḱ k ʔ ⟩ /sʲ sˠ h/ ⟨ ś s h ⟩ /ɾʲ ɾˠ j w/ ⟨ ŕ r w y ⟩ /i ɯ ǝ a/ ⟨ ı u ǝ a ⟩ /ǝɪ̯ aɪ̯/ ⟨ əı aı ⟩ Stress is exclusively word-initial. Re: Ȧbhannı

Okay, I think I've gotten far enough on Ȧbhannı that it's time to start over. :D But to be serious, this is a problem of mine. If I work too long on a conlang, particularly if I'm going for naturalism, it starts to feel "topheavy" and frustrating and unmotivating. So I want to start over (...

Re: Ȧbhannı

Ah, right. The vocative has a normal (i.e. Latin-esque) use, but when the subject of a clause is put in the vocative case and placed before the verb, this forms an imperative mood clause. Now, instead of negating the verb in this case, you use the negative vocative ending.
