Re: Adjectives

By the way, what were you thinking of when you mentioned "adjectival verbs", and why can't they be incorporated in your language? I'm not saying that there'll be no adjectival verbs ever, since I'm pretty sure things like "towered" (=was tall) and "boomed" (=was loud) ...

Adjectives

We all know that some languages basically have verbal adjectives. What's more interesting to me is that some languages seem to have nominal adjectives. Latin has a bunch of adjectives and nouns that are indistinguishable, and I thought that maybe that made the "adjective" a noun in an appo...

Re: Orthography Help

Should I make [x] and [ɣ] phonemic instead of just having random allophony with them? The way it is does seem sort of random :/ How does the current allophony work? The corresponding stops become (became) fricatives intervocallicaly, which is completely reasonable, except that doesn't happen with p...

Re: Orthography Help

OK. Yeah, the labiodental one is potentially useless (although I have one word with it, I can probably replace that sound), so I'll just have to see how that works out. And the palatals aren't allophonic, but since you mean as a historical development, sure. Then I could just have the [j] merge with...

Re: Orthography Help

Well, you could start off by reducing the number of vowels, namely the unrounded back vowels. Those are rare, let alone in languages with roundedness distinction in front vowels. The velar lateral approximant could stay but get rid of the lateral trill and the bilabial trill, and the velar lateral ...

Re: Orthography Help

I say you have a rather kicking phonology. Quite unique. Can you actually pronounce all these sounds? I'm curious to what an epiglotalized vowel sounds like. You can represent /ts/ with <ẕ> and other letters with macron below, either for fricatives or palatalization: http://www.frathwiki.com/Macron...

Re: Orthography Help

I want this to look like a "real" language. I'm planning on making it into a real language, that is, by using it, which is why the orthography needs to be good enough, and no real language has a phonetic orthography, and I don't want to have to think about allophony when I'm using my conla...

Re: Orthography Help

There are some nice things in it, but there are also some things that are so weird I don't think I could use them very well (like using <j> for /χ/ and the weird palatalization apostrophes that look like a romanization of Russian). It also does one of the things I was trying to avoid, which is have ...

Re: Orthography Help

I know it's hard to make an orthography for a language you don't know, and that's why a lot of people who tried to do things completely on their own messed it up. I still think people could help a little though. Especially people who have been conlanging for a while and are used to making orthograph...

Orthography Help

I actually almost have my language to the point where I can speak it, minus the fact that I still have to learn how to make some of the weird clusters and diphthongs consistently and correctly, but I cannot do anything with my conlang on conlanging sites because I cannot write it. I've tried several...
