Seeing as ng > /ŋ/ happened in English, I think it's safe to say this is more than just possible.Dezinaa wrote:You could have /ng/ be allophonically realized as [ŋg]. The delete the /g/, and you have phonemic /ŋ/. I'm not sure how common of a sound change this is, but I think it would work.

Father really is pronounced pretty close to [a] for me, but that's probably because I have parts of the Northern Cities Vowel Shift.
