Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Those could work too. :) I was thinking of a general cultural tradition with it. I've added a page for it though.

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I was just thinking of customs the desert tribes may have. What if there was a tradition of "sky burial" or "silent towers" where basically you put a dead body up high in a specially made tower or on a rock specifically for scavenging birds to consume? The idea being that the bod...

Re: Noku speedlang noumi: Today's Speedlang

I like some of your design decisions like limiting plurality on nouns to humans and the partial reduplication on polysyllabic words. Just for my own purposes because I am developing a language that has a vocative, did you get the idea of using a marker for both vocative and prepositional from a real...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

I finally have made some decisions about the cases and noun classes which I'll show below. Here is some background and my current thinking on the development of the language that would become classical Kojikeng: To Classical: Sound changes and the incorporation of new adult speakers from other langu...

brblues wrote: 19 Apr 2020 14:00 If you agree, I can have a go at trying to flesh out the mythical city, which would mean it'd be a Bokisig myth?

That works for me. Like, the city is first attested in Bokisig writing?

Re: The Txabao language

I am sure it could happen. I was hoping to have fewer basic colour terms though maybe through time some can be "downregulated" to other terms. Maybe the colour grey could actually have meant just ashes? I already have one word for ashes: hhau. Maybe one word can mean the ashes of a cremat...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

The wiki is much improved, especially the front page. One request: Do you think you could rename the Txabao language family to the Txabao ic language family? Done with pleasure! :) I guess if nuclear power predated the combustion engine and steam engine, chemistry would advance sooner (in compariso...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

Oh, that is so cool! Zeix , kseu , and pser all merged due to sound changes! There will clearly be a lot of change. It happened with the SAE languages and it happened with the Indo-Aryan languages, so case and declension overhauls are a thing real language families do. It is fascinating. It was my ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Yeah it's unfortunate. I guess one thing we could do is keep notes in the main timeline brief and important and leave full histories to dedicated pages. I have not looked into the details but something like the tables available to wikipedia would be great.

Re: Some questions about part of speech

I'm with you guys too. haha. It is a huge pedagogical gripe for me how sometimes it is presented as if "walking" in "I am walking" being the verb is the only legitimate analysis. That drives me up the wall though so many can't just explain "though there are other ways to loo...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

I'm going to either rework this thread or make a new thread for an "Old Kojikeng" language. If I do the later I'll just cross link the two threads. Below are the all important pronouns converted from the Txabao language. I'm going to discard the dual forms of things in the third person but...

Re: The Txabao language

Genitives come before the possessed, although when a preposition equivalent to "of" is used instead of a genitive case, the possessed comes first, then the preposition, then the possessor (in oblique case). An animacy hierarchy determines whether the genitive or the prepositional construc...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I've been doing some organisation for the front page. https://damta.fandom.com/wiki/Damta_Wiki
I've created a few landing pages for later expansion and interlinking. I.... don't know if Miranda will ever come back but I added a page for the Lúume people too.

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I updated the timeline. Please take a look to see what you think and add things. I'm not sure what the best approach will be for us, if not this list format perhaps a table. The tables on the site editor have the disadvantage that editing existing text is tricky in that it is easy to just overwrite ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Here is an update. I diverted a southern river into E4 so that it has a major river basin and added more northern rivers. The largest river system on the map is on the north west part of the continent. It drains from parts of 2E to 2G and some of 1G. I imagine that there are more smaller rivers or c...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Before too much time passes, do you think there should be any more major rivers or is this pretty good to your eyes? I feel as though I should add some more in the north actually. Even though it is arctic or tundra I notice rivers still exist in such regions.
