Deutsche Leute lieben es , Substantive zu verkleben. German people love to stick nouns together. We need dummy pronouns <es> for such sentences in German, we can't use the gap strategy like you do in English and the expanded infinitive is formed with <zu>. Nevertheless your German is getting pretty...

Re: Language practice thread

I greatly doubt that 'Ich will mehr als dem Kern verstehen' is a valid phrase in German. I might be mistaken, though. Same goes with 'Mehr oder weniger'. I can't imagine you are wrong. I am trying hard not to "cheat" and only using words I know to get at what I mean. Mayhap I am not ready...

You use 'die deutsche' in sentences like 'Ich lerne die deutsche Sprache'. Otherwise it's a neuter noun.

Favourite natlangs with sole respect to grammar

As the title says, what is/are your favourite (or least favourite) natlang(s) with respect to only grammar? My personal favourite is Japanese, because every conjugation makes (arguably) absolute sense in my mind. The volitional has a purpose, the informal-polite-respectful split is completely regula...
