Making something do something is <causative> yes.

'Wanted to' is future-in-past tense, the inverse being 'were to', 'should do'. (past-in-future, or subjunctive)
'Want to' is <desiderative>.

I find it interesting you have basically used the same rules that was in Vedic Sanskrit when forming vowels from the base /a/-/i/-/u/ sounds.
