If they're gods, maybe they knew from the beginning that they would create races of people who did have genders?

Re: Lexicon milestones and discussion of lexicon growth

Today I was doing U-words for Kankonian. One word, oelyateur , meaning "undecorated", as in without medals (from oel , without + yateur , medal), became the 84,000 th Kankonian word! xuxuxi, which is Classical Yiklamu's less-known computer-generated spiritual cousin created by John Cowan, ...

Re: How do your languages treat (in)definiteness?

No definiteness. No articles. My conlang is just like any language without them. Any language? What about Japanese? Japanese is without definite and indefinite articles, but the order of nominals -- what's a topic before the "wa" versus what comes after the topic marker and takes "ga...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I spent three days looking for missing T-words in my English-Kankonian dictionary. I got 260 new words out of it! A sampling: nuvyu : tabi (sock for flip-flops) adlosolrebul : to bring to the table ( ad- , prefix for "for/to" + losolrebul , roundtable) kyabmyu : tag (to show part of speech...

Just to let you know, I've also shared a link to the GoFundMe page on my best friend Lamesha's Facebook wall. Lamesha's involved in some prayer rings and the kind of Facebook groups that spread things like this around, so it should help.

I wasn't saying that you of all people said it was a response; it was just something I learned after hearing the song for the first time and looking it up on Wikipedia.

I heard these songs one after the other on the radio a few weeks ago. Turns out there’s a decadelong conversation between Bruno Mars and Miley Cyrus: When I Was Your Man (2013) - Bruno Mars I shoulda bought you flowers and held your hand, Shoulda gave you all my hours when I had the chance, Take yo...

Whereas in a syllabary you have to learn all of the hundreds of syllable symbols independently. hundreds? what happened to the use of this? __ | -e | -a | -o | b- | t- | n- | Well, that's still 9 different unrelated symbols to learn. ?? Unrelated? The point of such charts, for languages like Hindi ...

Re: Replacement puns

German has "frau" 'one (female)' for "man" 'one' as if it was "Mann" 'man' and could be replaced with "Frau" 'woman'. (Note the different capitalizations!) I never knew about that, but that's fun! Sounds as if Teutonophone feminists are playing the same word ...

Re: What do you associate with SOUNDS?

Let's talk about /x/.

I represent /x/ as KH in Kankonian. It can be the sound of:

*cookies
*sizzling and hardening, like an omelette
*crackling or crumbling
*dryness
*sand
*disgust or gagging
*ancient or timeless things like pyramids
*tearing or ripping apart
*hard drinks -- or soft drinks

I agree with WeepingElf that Egyptian hieroglyphics are the bomb! So beautiful. They even look a bt like the Kankonian alphabet.
