Re: Guess The Language!!!

Looking near the top of the Wikipedia page for the Trans–New Guinea languages, would this language be classified as part of an "accepted family"?

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Russian doesn’t have /ʑ/, it has /zʲ/. Ah, OK. Wikipedia describes Russian as having /(ʑː)/, and doesn't make it easy to tell (at least not for me) whether or not that's phonemic. That doesn’t sound right. At least not in the varieties of Russian I have been exposed to. It might not be. I'd be incl...

Very nice! Out of curiosity: are the stems pema and tyemi related at all? [+1] To the comment and the question. As someone who hasn't read/watched GRRM's stuff, what is it about the post that makes it remind you of his writing? That makes at least two of us, then. Based on what I've heard about the...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I would personally use „зь“ rather than „жь“ for /ʑ/ - in Slavic languages that have /ʑ/, it normally comes from /zʲ/. Do you know of a language that uses „жь“ for /ʑ/ or was it simply an aesthetic choice? Well, I guess I should clarify. Zendlektek (like all other languages of my conworld) would ne...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

I've had the core of this idea for a very long time now. It was originally inspired by language families like Mayan, Oto-Manguean, Huave (language isolate), and Uto-Aztecan (particularly the Tarahumaran and Nahuan branches). Since then, I've also taken inspiration from some of the Senegambian langua...

Oh boy. I know how incredibly complex and intertwined everything about climate is, I hope you don't get frustrated and throw in the towel on the twelfth time that it gives you an overflow error because the equator reached 2 billion C. I'm looking forward to any future work you do on this [:D] [+1] ...

I second what others have said about the language looking interesting, and about hoping to see more soon! [:D] I'm also quite fond of the sound and aesthetic of the words you've presented so far. Are you sure you have 31 phonemes, though, and not 31 phones? Based on what you've described, it seems t...

Re: Guess The Language!!!

Does the term "Papuan language" mean any non-Austronesian language spoken in and around New Guinea? As far as I know, yeah, pretty much. Although apparently , a more precise definition also excludes languages in that area that are connected to continental Australia as well. So, is the lan...

I completely missed your reply, shimobaatar. It was hidden on the previous page! [:O] Oh, the horror! It's tempting isn't it? It was a coincidence, and I've yet to decide what to do about it. Just out of curiosity, do you know what the Limestone cognate of "Hííenununóóoþa" might be if you...

Re: Kauzasian (kauzaspiẓüe ťax)

You mean postpositions, not pronouns, right? Whoops! [:$] Yep, I meant postpositions. What an odd typo… In the post on verbs, it says the anterior past is formed with the auxiliary niti take and the infinitive of the second verb. Kauzasian definitely uses the anterior past much less than others in ...

Jurzyuni Sökoz Holy crap. Why this reaction to the name? By the way, pronunciation is [ˈɟur.zʲu.ni ˈsø.koz]. Oh, no, I'm sorry. [D:] I should have realized how unclear that was. Jurzyuni Sökoz Holy crap. This is neither here nor there, but the narrator's thoughts about the Mithe made me more uncomfortable than reading about an old man getting his nipples (and more) peeled off, which is… a little surprising, I guess. Anyway, the story continues to be very captivating, and I...
