Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread

Ah, sangi, that's so hard. I'll add my sympathies to those the others have already expressed (more eloquently). I've enjoyed seeing pictures and hearing about His Holiness over the years!

Re: CONLANG RELAY XI

Ring 1 went wild . Props to my extremely literal translation of the metaphor for bravery!! Yeah, haha, I included a note about that, but I think it ended up being at the very end of the torch, so I wondered how things would turn out. I completely missed that! I went back and checked, and yep it's t...

Re: CONLANG RELAY XI

Ring 1 went wild . Props to my extremely literal translation of the metaphor for bravery!! Really interesting how the girlfriend disappeared in both cases... becoming the girlfriend of the speaker in Ring 1, then turning into a mere friend, then disappearing entirely from the original position. And ...

Re: CONLANG RELAY XI

My translation is complete! Now I just have to somehow create a grammar guide that will be as pleasant and smooth for loglorn to work with as alynnidalar's was for me. This...is not likely to happen, but I'm going to try my level best. I should be able to pass it on tomorrow, or Monday at the lates...

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread

Sal, do you have any post-1970 examples? There's a lot of books I can think of that do extensive footnotes for humor (Discworld and the Bartimaeus Trilogy immediately come to mind), but I'm not sure if that's the sort of thing you mean, or if you mean something more like The Princess Bride , where t...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I finally finished my work for the relay. [xD] This is the longest text in Tirina that I've translated in quite awhile. I'm pleased to discover I haven't lost all that much--aside from looking up usage of some prepositions and how, exactly, I translated certain relative clauses in the past, I didn't...

Re: CONLANG RELAY XI

Torch has been passed! Sorry for the delay, folks. Didn't end up having as much time to work on it as I thought I would, so I didn't budget my time properly. [:$]

As a reminder, I ended up using Tirina, not Azen.

Re: CONLANG RELAY XI

Unfortunately, I'm going to need another day or so--sorry for the delay but I haven't quite gotten the translation/grammar finished yet! I've ended up using Tirina rather than Azen, because neither Azen nor I was quite up to the task.

I haven't heard from ArryogVik yet so the rings may end up evening out on their own!

Re: CONLANG RELAY XI

Could I be switched with ArryogVik? I'm going to be coming back from vacation in the middle of my currently-scheduled time and I'm not sure I'd be able to get it done in time. (alternately, if the schedule slips a day, I can stay where I am--just would rather start 12/29 or 12/30 than 12/28) Ring 1...

Proof positive I'm a linguistics nerd: I made an audible "oooh!" sound when reading this. (luckily my coworkers did not notice; I don't think they'd understand!)

A good post, IMO. [:P] Much less specific politics and much more general things to consider.

I shall be participating with Azen, although I reserve the right to abruptly change to Tirina if it seems too hard. [;)]

Re: schedule: I'll be on vacation from December 24 to 29 so if I can be scheduled not then it'd be greaaaat.

Mention of lyocite veins getting larger as they get nearer to Despair made me think: what happens if you try to dig under Despair? Does it extend down into the earth as well?

Sonata Arctica has been coming up on Spotify quite a lot lately for me! I've liked what I've heard so far. Haven't actually sat down and listened to any of their albums properly, though.

Re: Weird Dream Thread

I had a dream last night about the next US presidential election, in which I had a heated discussion with a coworker over the merits of Kamala Harris--I supported her strongly, he did not. This was unexpected because I have no particular feelings about Kamala Harris, know very little about her posit...
