IMO this thread deserves more attention; but I don't have any conlang translations of these into any of my conlangs yet.

Some people like snails, some like oysters, some like both, some (e.g. me) like neither.cafaristeir wrote:Why is an auxlang supposed not to be very interesting ?
To me, artlangs are like prime rib; auxlangs are like Kaschi-Go-Lean.
YMMV.

at 40 words a day that would take you, what, three weeks?
The fact is very many people have learned B.A.S.I.C. English.

Re: Sambahsa (not my conlang)
It's intended as an international auxiliary language, so the average artlanger probably skips it on the supposition that it probably won't be very interesting.
Case in point: That's what I'm just about to do.

Re: Elementian (minimalist language)
i got the idea for this language, it's oligosynthetic but don't hate, it's really a great idea. there are 117 roots, each root is an element from the periodic table. for example sodium is 'na' and chlorine is 'cal' so salt is 'nacal' you might be wondering how verbs and stuff works, well it's reall...

I got curious after reading a description of Phi-features as "uninterpretable properties of nominals such as case, number, gender, and person." You may have misread. Some words' phi -features are uninterpreted. If so, those words are "probes" and they "look" for a word...

The book contains 13 articles and so far I've read only 6. That's the only bad article I've seen so far. I've also seen only one really good article so far -- the one on "Syntactic Agreement ... : American Sign Language", by Neidle and Lee, pp 203-221. It's great! Lots of conlang-inspiring...

Re: Case Survey
Oh, nominal modality I understand (and even implement in a couple of langs). What I meant was clausal modality being attached to nouns and taking up a slot in the case paradigm. Let's take for example: "Dig!" Where does the imperative marker go? On a related topic, who's that in your avat...

language - A system of words used to name things in a particular discipline. So even if the language has 20 words, it is still a language. If the language only has one word then it's just a sound because it's not a system of words for naming things. Peto IS a language because it is a system of word...

Re: Case Survey
Do your conlangs have case? If not, what other methods are used to distinguish thematic roles? (Head-marking? Syntax?) If so, how many cases do you tend to put in a lang? What kinds of cases do you like to have? Adpihi and Reptigan are tri-partite languages as far as their intransitive-to-monotrans...

Re: peto - a new minimalistic language which is a reform of
The purpose was to create a language with no more than 20 words but would still be able to convey anything Ain't gonna happen. B.A.S.I.C. English has 850 words. Lojban has something like 1350 gismu (root-words of content-words), and at least 94 cmavo (structure words). The Swadesh List contains 207...

I have a question about the article "On the relation of [gender] Agreement: Evidence from Friulian", by Sandra Paoli, on pp 223-242 in the book "Studies on Agreement", edited by Costa and Figueirido Silva. In this article, if I understand correctly, Paoli is interested in modifyi...

Re: Case on adposition
If a case-marker (and adpositions are a kind of case-marker) is ambiguous, such that PPhrases made with it might have both an ad-nominal meaning and an ad-verbal meaning; then, if you mark the adposition to disambiguate that, you've just created a new adposition. We have "in" and "to&...
