Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

I have a word to pass back haha. I've just been working through grammatical relationships and prepositions and realized that I need a new word for outside because the one that exists in Txabao becomes a synonym for a genitive pronoun, which I mean... I guess I could deal with but I'd rather not hah...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

The language sketch is called Mpetsa. It is mostly verb final and isolating. It has this phoneme inventory: m n ŋ ᵐp ⁿt ⁿts ᵑk p t ts k ᵐb ⁿd ᵑg b d g s r l w ɰ i u e o ɛ ɔ a ẽ õ ã /s/ -> [z] / V_V Syllable structure is CV. Only permissible word final vowels are {i u a ẽ õ ã} I've used it to figure ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Go for it! https://damta.fandom.com/wiki/Txabao-English_dictionary I added lots of new words to my dictionary in the past hour. Lots of nouns, verbs, and conjunctions. Take a look and see if any words are missing. Like, "I really think you should have a Txabao word for 'prestidigitation'"...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

Some good musing here. The gods and goddesses are often therianthropic, so the Txabao often do portray Neidu as a camel/human hybrid goddess. Kind of like the Egyptian deities. You know, it was bothering me last night that I hadn't actually double checked how you had described them haha. I'm glad i...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I think I want to create a new language family just as a conduit to get Sitr words into Kojikeng before its classical stage around 11 000 PS. I imagine them having some coastal settlements along the western coast and engage in a lot of trade between north and south and the desert people who interact...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

A bold new move -- and such a great consideration of how culture shapes language! A question: when do the ancestors of Kojikeng speakers stop worshipping Neidu and the other Txabao gods and goddesses? I haven't thought that far into the future. I actually would like to have them hang onto some form...

Re: The Txabao language

Potentially! I need to look at it again but I think I construed a construct case already that would be used in situations to for nouns of higher agency being possessed/associated with lower agency nouns. "The Queen of the city" versus "The Queen's city". So diachronics that keep...

Re: The Txabao language

The body parts idea may be restricted in scope, possibly with some body parts serving as new adverbs with many current adpositions retained. I just need to see how pick up the slack from the previous richer case structure.

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

I have decided that I'll actually merge the ethereal and female noun classes together. The ethereal singular is a set including and similar "mi" and the female plural is a set including and similar to "mo". Because of the huge importance of the mother camel goddess concepts of fe...

Re: The Txabao language

I like these a lot. I think they will be gramaticalized even further going into Kojikeng :) Cool! You mean like these words replacing the Txabao genitive case? Potentially! I need to look at it again but I think I construed a construct case already that would be used in situations to for nouns of h...

Re: The Txabao language

Today I added some words about joining and belonging to Txabao. Using the metaphor of "Carrying is owning" . . . da'ibra' to carry (in the hand) Now also means: to own dzibra' to belong to (a group) (from dzib , part, piece, segment) muqdzib (I) member muqdzibra' to join (become a member ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I'm confused. I thought the Txabao would exist and splinter a bit before the rise of the Neduki and the proto-group itself is not the Neduki.

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

So that would be Later Bokisig (not sure yet if this will be the classical stage or not), with distinct NOM vs ACC forms: NOM 1SG /mu/ 2SG /dɛx/ 3SG /ki [human] 1PL INC/mu'nɛtx/ 1PL EXC ʃɪg 2PL /dɛjtx/ 3PL ki.ki [human] ACC 1SG /kwu/ 2SG /ʤɛx/ 3SG ki [human] 1PL INC /kwu.'nɛtx/ 1PL EXC /tʃɪg/ 2PL /...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

Interesting. The color words look different as nouns and as adjectives now. Sad and good become the same? Hee hee. One or the other will probably shift meaning. Or be outright replaced by a foreign borrowing. Yeah I think you're right. Also quick is a homophone of both say... yeah probably borrowin...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

I've got a lot of homophones over several thousand years. haha. ONE-ENDING ADJECTIVES ʔaiʃa: cold, cool (water) ʔaiʃa -> ʔa:ʃa -> ãʃo - > ãso -> a̰so ʔaonxe: afraid, scared ʔaonxe -> ʔo:nxe -> õ:ŋe -> õ:ŋ -> o̰ŋ brainde: angry, mad brainde -> ra:nde -> ra:ne -> lan -> jan ʔizdu: left (opposite of ri...

Re: Kojikeng / Kodikeng

Oh, you've clearly done a lot of work on this! It's good that the morphology of nouns and pronouns doesn't stay the same over multiple millennia. After all, the SAE languages lost their cases, and plurals developed differently in Egyptian than they did in the Semitic languages. Thanks :) Yes though...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

have not done Damta things recently, maybe I should do Damta things more? If you want to sure :) Maybe progress the Sitr another era or start a new language family or isolate if you're bored. Brblues: Do you have any sketchy idea of pronouns for a western Bokisig language during or after their age ...

Re: The Txabao language

I haven't addressed the question of last rites in the Txabao culture yet, but given that I'm considering that lexical distinction, it would probably be a necessary part of their culture if the language is to make such a distinction, so I'll say yes, the Txabao do cremate the deceased. Maybe I can t...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Khemehekis wrote: 23 Apr 2020 02:24 Maybe the Prömkhongkhong (the zebu pastoralists) can practice sky burials like the Zoroastrians. I'll probably have the Txabao practice cremation so their language can have two words for "ashes".
That would be really cool :)
