The History of the Island

Post by Shemtov »

In an alternate reality, the inhabitants of a certain planet discovered a fifth dimension- not of space nor of time, but something real-world physics cannot describe. The energy connected to this dimension could be harnessed for powerful technology. Eventually, they invented Nanobots that allowed the people of that planet to harness this energy using a neural connection, but they could only use the energy flowing in one direction of the dimension called Nyayl. If they would use the other direction- Tok- using the nanobots, it would drive them insane, even though Tok had the potential to be more powerful then Nyayl. Eventually, they were able to invent a new kind of nanobot that allowed them to channel Tok. However, it had been given to very few people when an apocalyptic war broke out, leaving much of the world in ruin. Ten couples, who had the Tok nanobots, sealed themselves in a bunker during the war, and their descendants exited years later and scoured the world for survivors- who all only had Nyayl nanobots. They decided the best thing for their species was to abandon all technology, aside from the inherent power given by the nanobots, so they used their higher powers to destroy all land except for one island, where they ruled over the survivors' descendants as the "Ten Families", telling them nothing of the technological reason for their powers, ascribing them a mystical explanation. At first, they ruled over everyone else fairly but harshly, but eventually, the "Ten Families" began to enjoy their power too much and abandoned their altruistic excuse for setting themselves up as rulers entirely. They would teach those with only Nyayl nanobots in their cells how to channel Tok magic, and publicly demonstrate how using Tok would make those not belonging to the Ten Families insane. This, they claimed showed divine favor of the Ten Families and therefore whoever rebelled would not only be crushed by their higher power, but would lose their afterlife. They began to claim divine status and restricted freedom of thought on the Island. One family of the Ten , the Wuķ'ëhä, disagreed with this and began to secretly plan a way to free the people from the Ten Families utter control by a proxy organization labeled as terrorists called the Syahnâ, in whom they planted doubts as to the Ten Families divine claims.
Many children make up, or begin to make up, imaginary languages. I have been at it since I could write.
