Lernen Sie Deutsch!

Post by Testyal »

Teil eins
Learning German ain't an easy affair. So deal with it.

Right, quick run through of how these lessons are going to look like, then we'll start.
I am not going to do anything to do with phonetics, apart from providing the pronunciation to new words. Wikipedia was made for a reason.
When I write 'ue', 'oe', or 'ae', I mean 'ü', 'ö', and 'ä' respectively.
All nouns begin with a capital letter.
Do your homework.
That's it, enjoy!

Simple nouns
Nouns in German are in one of three genders- Masculine, Feminine, and Neuter. It also has four cases- Nominative, accusative, dative and genitive. We'll use just nominative for now. The 'the's and 'a's change accordingly.
Masculine
The
Der - Masc e.g. Der Morgen
Die - Fem e.g. Die Katze
Das - Neu e.g. Das Haus
A
Ein - Masc e.g. Ein Mann
Eine - Fem e.g. Eine Schule
Ein - Neu e.g. Ein Geschaeft

'Hund' is masculine. What would 'a' and 'the' be?
Spoiler:
Ein und (and) Der
Words learnt:
Morgen(M)- Morning
Katze(F)- Cat
Haus(N)- House
Mann(M)- Mann
Schule(F)- School
Geschaeft(N)- Shop
Hund(M)- Dog

Part two will appear shortly.

Learning the articles together with the words would be more intuitive than using bracketed m., f., n.
My neurochemistry has fucked my impulse control, now I'm diagnosed OOD = oppositional opinion disorder, one of the most deadly diseases in totalitarian states, but can be cured in the free world.

@Thakowsaizmu & Milyamd Nope, don't have the layout.

@Tanni Putting the gender in brackets allows you to work the articles out for yourself, improving the learning.

I agree with Tanni on this one. You are more likely to see 'das Auto' and 'die Frau' than you are to see 'Auto(n)' and 'Frau(f)'.

Also, Testyal1, if you are going to teach the language, you should teach it correctly.

How does that improve the learning?

A large part of language learning is repetition.

For some things working it out is helpful, but this is not one of them.
Considering the articles are pretty important they should be stated directly.

Falsch.
Kein Hund, kein Hund, kein Hund. Daß ist nicht so schwer.

Also, I suggest finding a way to type ü, ä and ö. It shouldn't be that hard.
Other than that, I might follow this somewhat.

I've added the German input method so I can enter üöä with ease. Problem is, y and z are swopped round. Ah well.

You could just add an international input for your English board.

Teil zwei
Simple verbs
Just like any other Germanic language, verbs are declined according to the person of the subject. We'll use heissen (To be called) as an example.

Code: Select all

Infinitive: heissen
1PS: ich heisse
2PS: du heisst
2PS POLITE: Sie heissen
3PS: er(he)/sie(she)/es(it) heisst
1PP: wir heissen
2PP: ihr heisst
3PP: sie heissen
How would you say 'I am called Bob'
Spoiler:
Ich heisse Bob
Let's use another, more regular verb- Trinken (To drink)

Code: Select all

INF: trinken
1PS: ich trinke
2PS: du trinkst
2PS POLITE: Sie trinken
3PS: er/sie/es trinkt
1PP: wir trinken
2PP: ihr trinkt
3PP: sie trinken
Bear in mind that the capital s on the polite form of you (Sie) is important.

Homework
Give me the suffixes of all the conjugations of a regular verb.

Spoiler:
1ps: -e
2ps: -st
2ps polite: -en
3ps: -t
1pp: -en
2pp: -t
3pp: -en
Ich heiße conlangconstructer und ich trinke Wasser weil ich bin durstig!

You should explain why the capital "s" in Sie is important. You should also give us some more information on these personal pronouns that we're seeing, for example: what does er/sie/es mean?
