Marco Hietala is leaving Nightwish. Don't mind me, I'll just be in mourning for awhile. [:'(]

I’m trying to start a side project that’s more drone/doom/sludge/stoner metal than Amniote is. Right now we’re about 50% assembled, give or take; we’ve bass, drums, and vocals at the moment and I’m looking for two, possibly three guitars and maybe a saxophonist (yes, really). I may end up just hiring a session musician for the sax stuff though…

I am looking forward to possibly using my blaster beam. I built Frank (with our guitarist’s invaluable help) for a reason.

Nice! Any idea if the bass will be thick and fuzzy or more on the plonky but still gritty side yet? Or alternating? Also, what kind of vocals if you have that planned? Like, only clean singing or only screams and/or growls or alternating, and if so what kind of balance? Will there be occasional bursts of blast beats or fast fills or something, or will it all be slow stuff? Not that these kinds of things are always easy to plan ahead and things might go in a different direction from what was originally intended for any number of reasons, but... still asking.

And hell yeah saxophone! I got a saxophonist to do an insane screamy sax solo to one of the songs for my next album and it's the perfect cherry on top. I imagine if you have sax all the time, it'll easily take the focus from the guitars, but I'm sure you could make it work especially if you have three guitars and they're not "competing" with each other. Like a decade ago I remember listening to some weird proggy death metal/mathcore band that had sax basically all the time and guitar wiggles and sax wiggles all over the place and it was awesome (unfortunately I don't remember what they were called and couldn't find by a quick googling), so of course even that can work. But obviously the first band that comes to mind when hearing the words "saxophone in metal" is Shining (the Norwegian one), like damn, their song "HEALTER SKELTER" in particular is one that imho makes saxophone sound just as natural in metal as guitars.

So if you do end up finding a saxophonist, oohhhh yeaaaahhh! Never heard any doom metal with saxophone AFAICR, at least in theory it sounds like it should be really epic. [B)]

I just finished tracking the drums (for the fifth and hopefully final time) for my main project’s album.

Going to try to get the order for the albums in tonight, and I also tried out for a side project and got in.

In metal stuff of interest to me, Rammstein's been putting out new stuff that's quite catchy.

Amniote isn’t dead, it seems! I thought we were going to disband at EOY but I guess not.

I saw a band on Wednesday, Phobophilic. They played this song, and I had a profound philosophical experience.

My new band, Cognitohazard, has a logo now!

I threw the concept together in like 20 minutes on lunch.
