Yeah that's the correct interpretation
Guess the Word in Romlangs
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Then no, it didn't.
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Does inv from the i and the n switching places? So originally being something like niv or nev?
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Did it begin with *o *ō

Ok, I must be completely misinterpreting your response to this in some way
So the segment that *invazar came from must have started with a consonant. Was it from something like vVn-> Vnv, ie, something like vinea -> invea?

Correct!qwed117 wrote: ↑24 Apr 2020 17:47 Ok, I must be completely misinterpreting your response to this in some waySo the segment that *invazar came from must have started with a consonant.
To clarify:
- the first phoneme of 'invazar' is /i/. The Latin word does not begin with a consonant followed by /i/.
- it does, however, begin with a consonant.
Well, "something like" is a bit vague, but no, it didn't begin with /v/, and the /nv/ sequence does not reflect original /vVn/.Was it from something like vVn-> Vnv, ie, something like vinea -> invea?
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
ah so it began with some cluster then a vowel? If so, id that
Anyways, did the Latin word from which <invazar> have an initial consonant cluster?
How nitpicky is this? [:P] I guess a more fair way of saying this "was the segment from which the <i> in <invaza(r)> comes from succeed a consonant", although that falls in the trap of deciding which segments correspond to what.Salmoneus wrote: ↑25 Apr 2020 00:51Correct!qwed117 wrote: ↑24 Apr 2020 17:47 Ok, I must be completely misinterpreting your response to this in some waySo the segment that *invazar came from must have started with a consonant.

Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Is it from this change: nVv -> nv -> inv ?
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
*novacula + are?
So something like "I will stab him" or "I will kill him"?
So something like "I will stab him" or "I will kill him"?

Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Yes!
Wow, after all the trouble with the initial, I wasn't expecting people to guess the /kul/ > /z/ bit so quickly!
No. FWIW, the former is probably a more helpful line of thought than the latter, though.
So something like "I will stab him" or "I will kill him"?
All4En: also no. Good lateral thinking, though.
