Was the first phoneme of *invaz(ar) preceded by a consonant in Latin that was later elided? (ie, did invaza come from a word beginning in a consonant)

Those are two different questions!

No, the first phoneme of *invazar was not preceded by a consonant in Latin.

Hmm... was there a syllable before the segment that would become *invaz(ar) that would be elided?
