k so
- does Pèi modify Houx, or Haiƀƀentou?
- did Houx begin with an obstruent in Latin (if so, was it a fricative?)
- does Haiƀƀentou descend from a single word used in Classical Latin?

Did haiƀƀentou, or at least the first part of it, originally begin with <f-> as well?

Unless I'm missing something:

pèi
  • Does not mean "fish".
  • Not a verb.
  • Not an article/determiner.
  • Sort of means "small", but not quite, at least not in this context.
houx
  • Began with <f-> in Classical Latin.
  • Not related to "folly" or Classical Latin focus.
  • Not a verb.
  • An adjective.
haiƀƀentou
  • Not a verb.
  • Not derived from a verb.
  • The head of the noun phrase.

all of that looks right, but I think at later stages of the game, perhaps not now, it might be useful to realize that the words are all capitalized.

Oh fun! Does it refer to a place?

hmm
Does Haibbentou have direct cognates in existing romlangs?

Oh, thank you! For some reason, I'd just been assuming that the capitalization wasn't important.

Is Haiƀƀentou made up of three or more morphemes?

- is Haibb- the root; does it carry the semantic content?
- does -ou mark for case or number?

Does -ent- descend from a Latin suffix? If so, was it a verbal suffix?

Sorry for my absence; as I wrote on the discord channel, my computer broke around two weeks ago, and I haven’t been able to talk much since. I can try accessing the cbb from my phone but it’s not as easy, and there might be more lags like this and typos abound. If you all are okay with that, then I will continue with this word, but if need be I can just disclose the word and allow the next person to create the challenge

No problem; sorry to hear about your technical issues.

hmm... is the <bb> from a cluster involving a labial? In particular, from <mp>?

[+1] I'm also fine with continuing with this current word.

Pèi Houx Haiƀƀentou
  • The fact that all three words are capitalized may be significant.
  • Does not refer to a place.
Pèi
  • Does not mean "fish".
  • Not a verb.
  • Not an article/determiner.
  • Sort of means "small", but not quite, at least not in this context.
  • Modifies the head of the noun phrase.
Houx
  • Began with <f-> in Classical Latin.
  • Not related to "folly" or Classical Latin focus.
  • Not a verb.
  • An adjective.
Haiƀƀentou
  • Not a verb.
  • Not derived from a verb.
  • The head of the noun phrase.
  • Not descended from a single Classical Latin word.
  • Does not have any direct cognates in existing Romance languages.
  • Made up of three morphemes: Haiƀƀ-ent-ou
  • Haiƀƀ- originally began with <f->.
  • Haiƀƀ- is the root, carrying the semantic content.
  • The ancestor of Haiƀƀ- contained <-a->, but not <-b->.
  • -ent- is descended from a Classical Latin suffix which has been "contaminated".
  • -ent- is not descended from a verbal suffix.
  • -ent- is not related to Classical Latin -entia.
  • Case and number are not overtly marked.

If not something like <-mp->, is <-ƀƀ-> in the third word descended from a cluster involving <-v-> in Classical Latin?
