How are you?

Wŏ chángcháng zài hánjià gēn péngyŏu qù jiŭbā hē le báijiŭ.
I often went to the bar to drink alcohol with my friends in the winter holidays.

Jīntiān wŏ dĕi fùxí zhōngwén shēngcí, kĕshì wŏ xiànzài bù xiăng fùxí.
Today I have to review Chinese vocabulary, but I don't like to review now.

Yīnwèi wŏ jiā juéde shèngdàn méiyŏu yìsi, suŏyĭ wŏmen zhĭ zài cāntīng chīfàn le.
Because my family thinks Christmas is not interesting, we just ate at a restaurant.

I chose it due to its growing importance.

Sometimes I think the the class should be improved because the teachers use some expression that we did not yet learn. That confuses me from time to time.

That would annoy me for sure.

Well, I wanted to say "quelques locutions", the s-key of my keyboard is a bit broken. Is it also not said anymore?

No difficulties! We receive a list of the words we have to learn every lesson. It can be found online.

The majority of new words is written with already known characters, so that makes learning them a bit easier, I'd say.

Oh, I understand. "Quelques" is a lot more common. There is also the partitive article, which sometimes corresponds to English "some".

The choice depends on the amount of emphasis, with "quelques" being more marked than the partitive.

I can only guess that the name of the titular Whistlepig in the second tune must be Zuzannah.

Hmm, where do I practice?

Since I finished college, it's been a much less formal process.

I watch French Youtube videos, and I take every chance to see a French film at the movies.

Speaking is more difficult to practice because there aren't a ton of French conversation groups where I live, but I often talk to myself in French.

I don't have much difficulty practicing writing because I've always had a knack for it, whatever the language.

I don't practise in those threads because I'm not good at natlangs and there are many people here that can speak that language proficiently. Whenever I try to speak it, it just ends up being a relex anyway.

Note: I'm assuming you meant languages that we are learning, not other natlangs that we are already fluent in (native/bilingual etc).

I think that speaking to yourself is excellent for practice.

That the skills involved in writing well match the way I think.

Good spelling, attention to grammatical details, an eye for style …

The understanding that the dictionary is my best friend.
[xD]

So I don't need as much practice to keep up my French writing level as I do for the other language skills.

Eux et les Gallois, selon Tolkien.
Them and the Welsh, according to Tolkien.

Unfortunately, my substitution didn't work that well meaning-wise.

I was looking for "kunpa", which means "if only", but instead I said "untúpa", or "to cover".

According to Tolkien, who are the dark-elves? Which nationality represents them??

I hadn't come across that term before you mentioned it just now, but after a bit of research, I'm thinking the answer to your question is uncertain.

"Moriquendi" (dark elves) is an umbrella term referring to several groups of elves.

The Moriquendi include the Sindar, whose language is inspired by Welsh, as well as the Avari and the Nandor.

Not much is known about the languages of the latter two groups.

From the examples Tolkien has left one can infer that these languages are based on different Indo-European languages.

- The Nandorin language resembles Old English, with the development a > ea, e > eo / _l, r (*alkwā > ealc, *mizdē > meord) and umlaut (*lugni > lygn) in both languages.

- The language of the Hwenti < *Kwendī was affected by Grimm's law

- The language of the Kindi < *Kwendī resembles satem languages, with the development kw > k.

About others, I'd say that Penni corresponds to Gaulish and Cuind to Irish Gaelic.

I'm so glad I didn't learn French in the '90s.

J'ai commencé mes études françaises pendant les dernières années 2000.
I started studying French in the late aughts.

Our teacher had us say the date at the beginning of each class session, and it was a lot easier to say "deux mille huit" (2008) than "dix-neuf cent quatre-vingt-dix-huit" (1998).
