Most hated conlang

Post by Zumir »

Do you know of any conlangs that are a dependable source of facepalms? If so, do tell!

Your title and question don't quite match. Hated doesn't necessarily require it be because of facepalm-inducing qualities.

Esperanto either way.

Eh, they're similar enough. Choose whichever.

Nooblangs in general.
Why hate Esperanto? Just cos it sucks for its INTENDED job, doesn't mean it doesn't sound quite nice.

As often as not, I suspect, non-auxlang conlangers dislike Esperanto because of its intended job, quite apart from anything else.

This isn't that great of a topic: There's only a handful of conlangs that are spoken by more than just their creator. You could go through all of them on just the first page.

To break the mold of all the Esperanto-hate, Lojban. Specifically, when used by people who don't know what it actually does. Lojban enforces syntactic clarity but not semantic clarity: These are not the same thing. I've even seen one person claim that it's impossible to lie in lojban.

It's not meant meant to be a long-lasting topic. I was really just curious.
For me, it would Toki Pona. Not counting all the philosophical bullshit, it doesn't realize that simplicity isn't the only thing that makes creoles interesting. The grammar can be interesting at times, but rest is mind-rendingly dull.

It is a popular and wide-spread opinion (one which I can neither confirm nor deny, "on my own hook") that the conlangs in Christopher Paolini's "Eragon" series are facepalmiphoric. (Or should that be "facepalmigenic"?)

I'm pretty sure that his language was essentially a relex of English adjectives following nouns.

I never really looked into it, so I always assumed it was Old Norse (based on a number of words I recognised)... Didn't realise it was supposed to be 'invented'...

Christopher Paolini's stuff is an English cipher using Old Norse and somewhat Irish words as well as random "cool looking" words for me. No way that's a conlang.

Would everyone hate me if I said I never liked Klingon, not-one-bit?

I can't recall having heard anyone say they actually liked Klingon in the first place — I sure don't.
