Casia

Post by HJH »

Hello! Here is the first draft of my personal language: Casia. It has a large variety of palatal consonants, ergative-absolutive alignment, highly irregular plural formation, six tenses, and agglutinative morphology that shows some fusionality. I am also developing a logography for it.

The text at the bottom of the second picture means:
oebielm aja-o

/aoðjœlm aɥaɦɔ/

SUPER.NEG.noise exist.ITER

It's silent again.

The top picture says:
coex monb bagomp jaxoab

coe-x mo-nb b-a-go-mp jaxoa-b

sister.ERG.SG.DEF 1.GEN.SG.DEF IND.NONVIS.TEL.DUR.TRANS.make.HODPST.COMP biscuit.ABS.PL.DEF

/coex munθ θɶɟʝɔmp ɥɶɣoaθ/

My sister has made biscuits. (I can smell them)

I would really appreciate constructive criticism, especially of the grammar.

Only six kinship roots? How do Casia speakers express "daoghter" and "son"?

I have words for them, but forgot to put them in the grammar document. They are:

oev, eoz (son)
tjo, cio (daughter)

New Casia Grammar

I have created a 2nd version of the grammar that has some major changes to the phontactics and morphology. The only downside is that it makes most of my old translations redundant [:S].
  • Polarity is now expressed grammatically in the classifier prefixes along with lexical aspect and transitivity.
  • The mood prefixes have been split into epistemic and deontic moods, so that they can be combined.
  • I have added a description of my personal lunisolar calendar and a description of the logography.
  • Root words can now only be one syllable. Syllables cannot begin with vowels.
  • The vowel mutations have been simplified from nine options to six, creating a more even spread of vowel allophones.
  • Permissive, necessative and desiderative moods have been added.

All of Psalm 114 in Casia.

The text is just 55% the length of the English.

I like this, especially the phonology. But that orthography makes my head hurt. Lol.

There's only one other conlang I've ever seen use all 26 letters like you do: Muplo ['mu.plø].

I appreciate that the orthography is strange. I wanted to make something that was compact and that I could type easily.

I’m sorry, I cannot detect the semantics of Psalm 114 in your interlinear morphemic gloss.

Psalm 114 is the first 9 verses of Psalm 116 in some versions.

I do see Ps 116:1-9 in your Casia IMG.
.....
I don’t understand at all how the Psalms could be re-capitulated, re-versified, re-ordered, and re-numbered, so confusingly?
Of course that’s not your fault.
Probably there’s been a long-standing tradition among Biblical scholars that, when translating Psalms, one should be high on mushrooms.
Or something.
