Yesterday, I did the Q-words. Q was the quickest letter yet, but I still did manage to get 10 new words:

holoinoisar: quadcopter (hol, four + oinois from oinoisfash, rotor + -ar, suffix indicating a way)
kidakhfash: quarryman (kidakh, to quarry + -fash, agent noun suffix)
ekretonis: quartermaster (ekreton, to quarter (soldiers) + -is, suffix for a person)
heshkhobo: quayside (hesh, by, alongside + khobo, quay, dock)
Kebekik: Québéçois (Kebek, Quebec + -ik, demonym suffix)
Kwenya: Quenya
zenitziz: quercetin (zenitz, cilantro + -iz, suffix for a nutrient from a specified plant)
lapamis: quiltmaker (lapam, quilt + -is)
kamoskashushsekhgyag: quinone (kamoska, the camosca, a species of rubiaceous plant native to Kankonia + shushsekhgyag, aromatic (in chemistry))
Khurani: Quranic (Khuran, Quran + -i, adjective suffix)

Next, I went through the first 21,000 words entered into my Kankonian dictionary, and compared them against my plant list on Frathwiki. I looked for plants wherefor I had the words for the species, but didn't already have the word for the family. (I found a few words that were missing from my Frathwiki list, such as "copal" and "iboga", as well.) I ended up with 31 new plant family adjectives, including loilkranoilinakhi (ostrich_fern-clan-y, onocleaceous), khemfetonakhi (Kaffir_bread-clan-y, zamiaceous), vatannakhi (phormium-clan-y, hemerocallidaceous), tritwinakhi (lobelia-clan-y, campanulaceous), akhupakhupnakhi (blackcurrant-clan-y, grossulariaceous), posbuaknakhi (quassia-clan-y, simaroubaceous), pirakwanakhi (jipijapa-clan-y, cyclanthaceous), timesnakhi (ulluco-clan-y, basellaceous), talbeseloilinakhi (nito-clan-y, lygodiaceous), khaneoskhonnakhi (dinosaur_food-clan-y, gunneraceous), hopakinzinoilinakhi (ihi'ihi-clan-y, marsileaceous), and hathenznakhi (khat-clan-y, celastraceous).

I updated the count at https://www.frathwiki.com/Plant_families now that Kankonian has over 200 plant family words.

Hopefully S will be a lot more fun.

Speaking of S, since more than 10% of English words begin with that one letter, I'm going to spend two days on it, as I did with C and P. I have enough Frappuccinos to keep me energized. [B)]

I decided to start a new unified dictionary for my minor conlangs where the word entries are columns and the languages are rows. This is the only way I can see that will let me look at the same word in ~30 different languages without having to constantly scroll right and left. In every other way, I find the traditional words-by-rows setup to be more convenient, but it just wasnt working for the minor projects.

Each language is in a separate color (though some are shared), and loans will be marked by putting that color into the field of the receiving language.

It was actually yesterday, but I created Tulemo pitch-accent system.
I also changed a bit the rules of compounding two roots. Some consonants are reduced in compounding, but the tone codes if the reduced consonant was an obstruent or a resonant. Plosives leave some tracks as prestopping. Because Tulemo phoneme inventory is relatively small, I think the tracks one tones and prestropping make he number of merged minimal pairs bearable.

As I learned a lot about Data Science in my Master's degree, I finally got rid of storing my vocab in Microsoft Word and switched to... Excel. [xD]

The switch was necessary, as after about 5,000 words and lines Word started to bug and repeatedly crash. Also, my alphabetical order was completely skewed, and therefore I needed a lot of time to add new words just for the sorting.
Since the switch, my vocab increased so quickly, with more than 100 new words within just a few weeks.
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.

Excel has worked well for me for more than ten years, and it's what I was referring to above. I tried using Microsoft Access once, so I could link cognates, but I found the inability to use color highlighting too difficult.

Some back garden archaeology wrapping up today. Discovered loads of ancient fortifications & brickworks. Also what is surely the remains of the location of the famous Battle of Daimwarth, upturning a tiny bugle of the Little Folk's brigade and a sword.

Earlier, made a map of the ancient world to accompany the account of the Downfall of the West.

Created a wonderfully euphonic Arculese word, guspetharios /xus.pe.'θa.ri.os/ "swordsman" from guspes "sword" + tharios "warrior, knight".

I also was able to work on Arculese without feeling like I should go back to Lihmelinyan. It's so hard for me to have a second project. I eventually start thinking my first project is better and I should only work on that. But made some progress today.

yetzuwagulupos: wildwood (deciduous)
yetzuwavarkariska: wildwood (evergreen)
yetzuwakhilefeg: wildwood (mixed)
yetzuwatzebowu: wildwood (rain-forest) (yetzuwa means nature; the second part of each of these four words is the noun for that type of forest/woodland; Kankonian has no overarching word for "forest")
kmoup-yebim: Wilms tumor, nephroblastoma (kmoup, tumor + yebim, kidney)
kmoupiyebimi: having a Wilms tumor, nephroblastomatous (kmoup-yebim + -i)
kmoupiyebimis: Wilms tumor patient, nephroblastoma patient (kmoup-yebim + -is) <-----Word #65,536!
pueaeueri: windblown (puea, wind + euer, to move + -i) <-----6 vowels in a row; I think this is a record for Kankonian!
kahwuridia: windfarm (kahwurid, turbine + -ia)
fubulpuea: windswept (fubul, under + puea)
hupedvoi: winger (cask on a ship's wing) (huped, wing (of ship) + voi, barrel, cask, keg)

What happens when you hit the end of the alphabet? No more new words ever, or just a slower pace?

Just a slower pace.

My online friend who's working on a corpus project sent me an alphabetical list of the 30,000 most common English words. I've been going through the list. At the time this list was made, however, the corpus had only 130 million tokens (running words) of text. Now he's working on the top 30,000 list for a 150-million-token corpus. When he reaches 200 million tokens, his corpus will be complete.

I'll probably go over the words that made the 150m list but not the 130m list after I've done with the 130m list and he's finished compiling the 150m list. That should get me many new words (I'm betting "COVID" will be on the new list, at the very least . . .)

Also: I'll still have tons of new concultural words (names of plants, animals, foods, sports, religions, clothing items, etc.) to add.

Come to think of it, Kankonian could really use a word for "wumbus"!
Anyway, I don't think he cán slow down. Tis not in his lexicon.
This is the best pun I've heard all week!

Awww, I was just playing along with you when you referenced On Beyond Zebra!

Lehola has a lot of cetacean species we don't find on Earth. There is the phitzika, a magenta river dolphin. There is the phoxurim, an ice dolphin. There is the cajaju, a dolphin with a long, thick beak/rostrum and a mouth shaped like a sine wave. There are also cetacean sapients: the orca-patterned wama of Cetonia, the baleened kyuphi of Mysticoidea, and the archaeocete-descended Greys (yes, Greys are cetaceans -- read The Dolphins of Heaven) on a number of planets. On planets with Greys or other cetacean sapients, one finds Earth-like cetaceans such as the muto, sirenocete, and vapipi. The planets with Greys also have archaeocete-descended quadrupedal or bipedal cetaceans like the Dover Demon, saqualma (a cetacean analogue of bats, also found on Kankonia!), karimiks, babut, tabmor, araki, mamporion, hhedron, hhadiks, gaudopour, fopo, and vaturaq (all of which I have mentioned in an earlier post). But there are no wumbera in the Lehola Galaxy. The idea of a fish-like, blubbery cetacean being able to climb a hill without its hollow-boned body collapsing is just too absurd to put in the Lehola Galaxy. I may be a deist instead of an atheist (allowing for the guided evolution of the iteli that allows multiple planets to evolve Greys independently), but not even God would create such a creature if its body would render it unable to survive on even one planet.

In other news, I have finished up my tour of the English language! I did X-, Y-, and Z-words yesterday. I got 18 new words, and since eighteen isn't too many, and since it was the finale, I'm going to post all 18 of them!

Yangtzi: Yangtze (borrowed from Earth)
yiskid: yaw; to yaw
espeb: pitch; to pitch (of an aircraft)
*ezoid: roll; to roll (as distinguished from yaw and pitch)
inoiri*: yearling (in, one + oiri, year + -i*, suffix for the young of animals)
gerdegh: Dantonese soldier; yessir (blind order follower) (borrowing from Dantonese)
biyit: yip; to yip
Yokohama: Yokohama (borrowed from Earth)
Yosemiti: Yosemite (borrowed from Earth)
Yukatan: Yucatán (borrowed from Earth)
Yuma: Yuma (borrowed from Earth)
Zagreb: Zagreb (borrowed from Earth)
Zoumba: Zumba (borrowed from English)

And since I added five cities/regions, I also created these five Kankonian cities/regions to balance the lexicon out:

Braksis: Braksis (city that forms a megalopolis with Kioikal)
Menevade: Menevadeh (region of Durben with national park)
Paimavizra: Paimavizra (city in Povoi)
Shalupas: Shalupas (city in Povoi)
Ritzakhank: Ritzakhank (city in Dumang)

I also added to my dictionary several English words that weren't new Kankonian words, just synonyms for words I already had in Kankonian: to yawp, yay, yea, yearlong, yenta, yon, yonder, young'un, zed, zie, Zippo, and to zippo.

At the time I started this endeavour, my Kankonian dictionary had 62,018 words. Once I finished, it had 65,595. That's more than 3,500 new words from (or inspired by) a list of the 30,000 most common English words!

Only a few years ago, my Kankonian dictionary was still missing words like "edition", "inquisition", and "notify", and I wasn't even aware of it. I don't have any obvious missing words like that anymore.
