Re: The Landau Core Vocabulary
I just finished adding a whole bunch of new words to the LCV:
The aforementioned words were from the top 3,000 lemmata in the corpus known as COCA. I added the top 3,020 or so words as of the 2019 update, excluding the obscenities; a few of the interjections; "et" and "al" (et al. isn't really core vocabulary), "trump" (the noun comes mostly from its use as the current president's surname); "GOP" (an organization's name); and "twitter" (mostly used as the name of the social media site). I also left out "quarterback" even though it made the top 3,000, since countries that aren't America won't talk about American football very often, and other planets probably won't talk about it at all.

Considering the universality of soccer on Earth, I'll add a word for quarterback after all. And, considering it's the best-known soccer position, goalie.

@khemehekis: I notice you’ve got various meanings of the (transitive) verb “tackle”.
But do you have any of the noun “tackle”?
Like fishing tackle?
Or block-and-tackle?
Or wedding tackle?

Re: The Landau Core Vocabulary
I've PM'd Bloomylele.
But,
I do have some less common words in the LCV, but those are Part V lists in particular categories. "Adze", for instance, which is not among the 30,000 most common words in English, appears under More Tools, and "longan", not among the top 30,000 in English either, appears under More Plants.
But,
I don't have any of these. I wouldn't consider any of them core vocabulary. They're not very common.eldin raigmore wrote: ↑01 Nov 2021 22:46 @khemehekis: I notice you’ve got various meanings of the (transitive) verb “tackle”.

Attention MissTerry! Today I added 218 new entries to the LCV! I added in the eleven next most populous U.S. states (I already had the four most populous: California, Texas, Florida, New York), so now I have the big fifteen. I also added some country names that appear frequently but that I don't already have on my list. Then I added in all the A1 and A2 words on the Oxford 3,000 list that I didn't already have. Plus a few more miscellaneous words (like "trailer" and "non-binary"). The new additions:

I was reading https://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanalo_(akvovojo) and it says some languages have different words for a navigational canal and other kinds of canals. Does anyone know of a language that makes such a distinction?
