What colleges/universities offer documentary linguistics courses?

Post by ThatAnalysisGuy »

I have been looking at colleges for the near future that offer language documentation and revitalization courses. I am interested in studying and attesting various languages across the world, especially Algonquian, Eskimo-Aleut, Oceanic, Ket, Cushitic, and Chadic languages. I currently live in the Midwest region of the United States, and I am wondering if there are any language documentation colleges around that area.

I know that the University of Wiscounsin did some documentation and classes on Hoocąk. I am pretty sure there is some language documentation at the University of Chicago, but I might be wrong. At Ohio State University there is Judith Tonhauser who has worked on Guarani.
I am really no expert though on US universities though. Maybe someone else knows more.

The University of Oklahoma has a Field Methods class (when they can secure an informant). It’s not a specialized course program, at least for the Bachelor’s, but they do offer it.

I think the Ohio State University has a specialized Master’s program.
