Both of the possible uses for "QED" you mention, are places I would expect to see "BTW" instead.
(By the way: BTW stands for "by the way").
I'd also expect to see "FYI" used there.
(In case you don't know FYI stands for "for your information".)

That's almost "correct" (that is, almost the same as the usage I'm used to).
The only difference is what I'm used to would end up with:
"... So the plural of octopus is octopada; QED"
