My John sees blue to Mary.

Post by rickardspaghetti »

This TC is inspired by Trailsend on this thread.

:eng: My John sees blue to Mary.
:swe: Min John ser blått till Mary.

:usa:(Lakota) John mitȟáwa kiŋ Mary él tȟó waŋyáŋke.(This sentence probably has many errors.)

I think an explanation is needed. Is see blue to someone an expression of some kind?

I'll clarify then. Fiziwig had posted a syntax of a conlang and Trailsend used that syntax to form a sentence. This is what came out:
Spoiler:
Trailsend wrote:I can use your grammar to generate the following well-formed sentence:

Sentence
NP + PP (S --> NP + PP)
MP + N + PP (NP --> MP + N)
Sp + (AP?) + N + PP (MP --> Sp + AP) * Is an adjective phrase mandatory after a specifier?
Poss + N + PP (Sp --> Possessive pronoun)
Poss + N + VP + Prep + NP (PP --> VP + Prep + NP)
Poss + N + V + AdjP + Prep + NP (VP --> V + AdjP)
Poss + N + V + Adj + Prep + NP (AdjP --> Adj)
Poss + N + V + Adj + Prep + N (NP --> N)
My John sees blue to Mary.

This is a legal sentence according to this grammar, but I don't know what it means.
I've no idea what it's supposed to mean, but it sounds fun. Perhaps this could be an experiment on gibberish?

I saw how you got the idea for this, but it's really difficult to translate something you don't understand.

If you interpret see-to as a distransitive verb, here is the acoi version:

:con: Acoi: Mary mbawanangimare phali John.
My pronouns are <xe> [ziː] / <xym> [zɪm] / <xys> [zɪz]

:deu: Mein John sieht blau zu Mary
:ita: Il mio John guarda blu alla Mary

My translations sound quite odd, but I think that's not my fault. O_O
