Not sure why you put that in code markers if it wasn't to line up your gloss.

Doesn't that look better and easier to read? :-)

You're right. Honestly, I wasn't expecting anyone to read my gloss. [xD] Anyway, thanks to you, I noticed I forgot a clitic so I fixed the gloss now.

PROH-TOO 1SG(.DAT) PROH-TOO my-DAT child-DAT PROH<ever_again>-when PVB-1PL.B-APPL-speak-THM-NPST.1/2
  • I'm not really sure how agreement works with arguments in a "neither... nor" disjunction. Googling around suggests the features are combined (1SG + 3SG = 1PL), which I've done here. An alternative would be to use stripping (a kind of ellipsis) to avoid the question of agreement resolution altogether: ნურც მე დამელაპარაკები, ნურც ჩემს შვილს nurc me damelaṗaraḳebi, nurc čems švils "neither me(.DAT) speak:FUT.1SG>2SG, neither my child.DAT".
  • Georgian has this remarkable way of forming negative indefinites. The language has three flavors of negation, and you can build combine them pretty freely with any indefinite pronoun base: e.g., არასოდეს arasodes "never" (normal negative), ვერასოდეს verasodes "can't ever" (modal negative), ნურასოდეს nurasodes "don't ever!" (prohibitive). Then, there's this little infix -ღა- -ġa- that adds an "any more / again" meaning: აღარასოდეს aġarasodes "never again", ვეღარასოდეს veġarasodes "can't any more", ნუღარასოდეს nuġarasodes "don't any more!".

RED-never AUX.2SG-2SG-LOC or=SELF-1SG or=child-1SG speak-NEG=PFX
  • Again dealing with the disjunction is challenging... Here I went with the default LOC marker on the auxiliary to index the disjoined indirect object. I haven't thought about how stripping would work in this language, maybe I'll play around with that.

for my conlang Ðaujai:
Je bneiye keni aifenne jade sikke se za ziya taiü.
[d͡ʒɛ 'bne.jɛ 'kɛ.ni ai.'fɛn.nɛ 'd͡ʒɑ.dɛ 'sik.kɛ zɑ 'zi.jɑ 'tɑi.u]

Code: Select all

je bneiye keni aifenne jade sikke se za ziya taiü.
not talk-IMP once_again never neither to.1.MASC. to ART.ACC.MASC.ANIM. son my.
Ðaujai's conjunctions tend to go before the first of the items that they are linking. Jade is a contraction of je, the negation adverb, and ade, akin to English's "not". Because ade is such a conjunction, jade precedes the first listed item, sikke. For instance, the expression (excuse my romanization), "with scythe and sword", or "with all they've got.":

Code: Select all

yei an ȿîmata an surr
[je ɑn ʃɪ.mɑ.tɑ ɑn sur]
CONJ PREP.INSTR scythe PREP sword
But yei is archaic. The modern conjuction is kvi: "Mark and Keuyeȿí are going to London."

Code: Select all

Tirr kvi Marku Keuyeȿí drei Londra.
Go-PL. CONJ. Mark Keuyeȿí PREP.ALL London
.

We see negative concordance, of course. Conjugating prepositions too: sikke, but unconjugated se before the modified noun.
Well that was fun. Thanks.

Don't talk to me or my son ever again!

An object pronoun normally attaches directly to the imperative form of a verb, so "Talk to me" would be Prejhemme. But since it's being coordinated with "son", the stand-alone form is necessary. The indirect object of a verb often is accompanied by the preposition a, but it can appear with no preposition if it is definite, noble-gender and non-quantified. In this sentence, both the first-person pronoun and /guarçon meet those requirements, so they have no prepositions.

Good sentence. I had to think about this one for a bit. But here's how you'd Lihmelinyanize it:

:con: Lihmelinyan

Gē zábres zi uk tantréyei-zei tára nu!

PROHIB.PART. speak-2.s.INJUNC me-DAT or son-DAT-my-DAT again EMPH.PART.

zábrami "I speak" takes a dative object. "Gē" is a special particle meaning "do not" that is always paired with the injunctive mood (hence the mood's name). "-zei" is a clitic possessive adjective. It declines irregularly. "ever again" I've translated as "again" with the emphatic particle "nu". "nu" is difficult to translate but sometimes "certainly" or "ever" is the sense of it.

There are two translations here for the same language: the first one is more archaic and dramatic, the second one is more casual, and I couldn't decide which of these variants is closer to the original phrase.

IMP big talk-VM-NEG you-NM FUT I-NM  and create-PASS;NM I-ADJM NOUNIF
(Strongly) don't talk to me and my creation in the future.

NM, VM and ADJM = noun marker, verb marker and adjective/adverb marker.
NOUNIF = nounification particle, it makes the previous sentence a noun (for example: I sleep -> the act of me sleeping)
The language is primarily head-initial, and the word order is VSO. There is no present tense, and past imperfect is commonly used instead.
I'm not very good at glossing, so if something is wrong and you want to correct it, please do.
I now realize I could actually translate "ever again" more closely, but I won't go through this phonetic transcription nightmare ever again.
