Annunciation

Post by Reyzadren »

:eng: English
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was incredibly gifted in many ways.
From sketches to paintings to scientific inventions (like the parachute), Leonardo was a man ahead of his time.

A little thread crossover that was not made explicit.

Over here

you are directed in the first post to go here

the first block of which has the griuskant paragraph featured in this translation exercise with a picture of Verrocchio and Leonardo's painting, (The) Annunciation. My guess would be that after the first two sentences we are meant to translate about what a whiz-bang guy Leonardo was, the griuskant paragraph expounds somewhat on the painting in question.

lol no, I just want y'all to translate these 2 sentences into your own natlangs/conlangs, just like every other thread in this subforum. There is no cross-over with my conlang thread whatsoever as the first post here is merely my own translation/gloss.

^tldr: Translate these 2 sentences.

Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.

I ended up rendering "was incredibly gifted in many ways" as literally "had many incredible talents". My thinking right now is that "be gifted/talented" will usually be phrased as "have talent" in Silvish.

Parachûto is a noteworthy word because it displays Silvish's strong tendency to regularize noun endings based on gender. The expected, and original, form of the word when it entered the language from French is parachûta, with a final <a>. While the apparently feminine ending and masculine gender don't clash in French, where the word is neatly analyzable as a kind of compound that is always masculine, it isn't as transparent from a Silvish perspective. The parachûto form emerged quickly, and eventually it overtook the original version. Many other nouns have been regularlized in the same way; for example, exclusively masculine collêga became collêgo "colleague", and the suffix -îsta "-ist" was reanalyzed as a feminine while -îstou emerged in the masculine.
