The Trip - Still Corners

Post by Lambuzhao »

Gē ɣir ˤeučeχr yahmena ~ Happy New Year, Y'all!

I'm back for a limited time to share a great little song, oldie but a goodie, and wouldn't have it any other way [:)]
Hœp your year is full of serendipities and mashallahs; mine started off with a really great little atar à la Quest for Fire ; I hœp I can keep the embers burning for the 'trip'.

Here are the English lyrics as well:
Spoiler:
Time has come to go
Pack your bags, hit the open road
Our hearts just won't die
It's the trip, keeps us alive
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh
So many miles
So many miles
So many miles
Away
They're following some dance of light
Tearing into the night
Watching you fall asleep
The sweetest dove in a dream
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh
So many miles
So many miles
So many miles
Away
A little foreboding but hopeful, short and not too wordy: Hœp U try it!

Hey! It's good to see you again, Limited Edition Lambu™ [:3] I was just looking for a fun New Year's translate, and this fits the bill.

Image Silvish

L' eûra l' e vvin-ûva de pàrtre
Fê ta vvalîza, prin la roùta
Nottron queû refûza de morî
L' ett lo vouyâjo qui nou bbâlye la vîza

Lwin

I/A ssîvou câque jû d' lumûrye
I/A vvont a ffûtye dyun le nû
I/A tt' addjêtyou a tt' indromî
La colòmba la myeu ddoûche dyun in sònjo

Ooh, ooh …

Tâlamin …
Lwin

I decided to ignore any meter or rhyme and just concentrate on the meaning. I don't know who "they" are, and Silvish pronouns mark gender, so use i if they are male or mixed-gender, a if they are all female. (EDIT: Almost right after I posted, I started changing my mind about the form of the feminine pronoun :P Updating that)

"Dance of light" almost tripped me up, because I was about to translate it literally when I realized they probably mean "movement/flickering of light". So I went with jû d' lumûrye "play of light".

Another thing to note is that this dialect of Silvish (some kind of standard or koiné) now uses the same word, myeu/myeû, for "more/most" and "better". You can see that in the "dove" line. I think some dialects will retain a separate word for "more/most"; maybe it's an urban/rural divide.

Some glossy interlinears and a glossier glossary:

New word for this challenge:

zentʻes [ˈcentəs] - dove
Etymology: from zenta "to swing" + ʻespem "bird", due to the swinging motion of a dove's head
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.
