Explanation of sex

Post by Omzinesý »

I saw the film Captain Fantastic. It has a good dialogue where the father explains some truths.

Child: What does rape mean?
Father: When a person, usually a man, forces another person, usually a woman, to have sexual intercourse.
Child: What's sexual intercourse?
Father: When a man sticks hes penis in a woman's vagina.
Child: Why would a man stick his penis in a woman's vagina?
Father: Because it can give them both pleasure, and because a combinations of a man's sperm and a woman's egg can create a baby and continue the human race.
Child: But that's where she pees.
Father: Pee comes not from the vagina but from the urethra, which is within the outer labia. But generally speaking, yes, that is where she pees.

New words for this challenge:
Spoiler:
vatnúm [vɐtˈnuːm] - where (relative pronoun)
Etymology: vat demonstrative pronoun + núm "living place", analogous to the interrogative pronoun avitnúm? "which living place?". Colloquial variant of the more high-level unúm.

èspercvam [ˈɛspəɾkʋam] - egg, ovum
Etymology: esper "egg" + cvam "seed"

àgost [ˈɐgɔ̈st] - pee, urine
Etymology: new root

àgostiyre [ˌɐgɔ̈sˈta̯iːɾə] - urethra
Etymology: àgost "urine" + -iyre, analogous to biyre "windpipe"

dèrinpudur [ˌdɛɾɨnˈpuːdʉd̟] - labia
Etymology: dèrin "vagina" + pudur "lip"
USAGE NOTES: This noun is almost always in dual.
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.

Notes and new words:
Spoiler:
Responses to "why" questions often begin with the subordinating particle ke (K’ î leur peu balyé de plexi tous lous doû … "Because it can give them both pleasure …") This is a shortening of a koza ke "because", which can also be used to start this type of answer.

There are less formal terms for some of the body parts and concepts mentioned. For example, "egg cell" can be translated with the general Silvish word for "egg", yeu. But since the father is using more elevated vocabulary, like "sexual intercourse", the Latin borrowing ovula seemed to fit better.

grantas lavra nfc - (plurale tantum) labia majora (calque < Lt. labia majora)
kuirï v - to cook; (with SBRD) to force, to be necessary (conflation < Lt. coquo and cogo; polysemy may have been reinforced by other HEAT=NEED metaphors, cf. çhaûdre "to heat; to be important")
ovula nfc - (scientific) ovum, egg cell (borrowing < Lt. ovula)
parlonjhé v - prolong, continue, perpetuate (< par- "forward, by" + lon "long")
relasyon seksuala nfc - (plurale tantum) (formal/scientific) sexual intercourse, sexual relations (calque < Fr. relations sexuelles)
spermatozōido nmc - sperm cell
urétra nfc - urethra (< Lt. urethra)

Notes:
- (2) and (4) are what Lambrecht calls “sentence focus”, that is, they lack an explicit topic. Their implicit topic is what the child has just said before, ‘Rape is that a mans sticks his penis …’. Therefore, they start with a verb.
- “Dadnaasii’e” (berry-strawberry) means ‘strawberry’. “Wootnaasii’e” means ‘penis’ or more specifically ‘glans’. If you want to specify that it is the whole penis, you would say “wootnaasii’ekoonii” (organ-strawberry-long).
- "Kap" means an animal species. "Laat" means an animal individual.
