Is this a compound verb? Is PAT an inflectional affix that comes between the roots?

Firstly, PAT is the patientive nominaliser -an, which makes yrís ‘say’ become yrísan ‘utterance; word’, and the resulting new word is thereafter compounded on te ‘get’, yielding yrísante ‘comprehend; understand’ ( ← ‘get the words’). Pretty simple and semantically transparent, in fact.
