Re: The Index Diachronica: CHRIDD'S SEARCHABLE INDEX = WONDE

I know this is a late response (since I haven't really been checking this forum much), but you can search for these by manually putting them into the URL: https://chridd.nfshost.com/diachronica/search?q=B

Edit to add: Now capital letters are available below the table.

Re: The Index Diachronica: CHRIDD'S SEARCHABLE INDEX = WONDERFUL

By year’s end, I want to release an expanded (and corrected—a very nice redditor named /u/SquiDark went through and catalogued errata) version of the Index. Anybody willing to help? My goals are as follows:

- Fix typos
- Correct errors in the lists
- Get rid of the Altaic and Elamite-Dravidian headings because I’m older and wiser now
- Expand the document with further sound changes
- Make the base PDF Unicode-compliant

I'm interested.
What will you be using, GitHub maybe?
I have used the Charis SIL font in the past. It supports IPA and looks nice.

I've learned quite a bit more about Romance linguistics these past few years, and notice various things in the Romance language entries. Can I just post my updates here? Or in another thread?

i would like the Hebrew sound shift of /ʕ/ > /ŋ/ removed, as it clearly never happened, and even mentioning it with a "perhaps" is likely to mislead people, as I've seen it brought up several times in conlangs. it's under "Most Wanted Sound Changes" and those are my words in the explanation.

kʲ gʲ > k g in Danish is also mine and Im not sure that ever happened either.

Oh no, and I took this change as a confirmation than the [?\] > [N] in my conlang is plausible...

I’m not too familiar with GitHub (at least, not as someone who publishes stuff there) and would need some guidance.

You could, I suppose, unless the mods feel a dedicated correspondence library thread is more appropriate.

As you wish. I’ll have to do research about Danish.

I’d say keep it. Rhinoglottophilia is a thing.

There's been some talk on the ZBB about turning the Index into a more comprehensive, complete, and accurate database via a custom web site. Figured I'd mention it here too and gauge the interest, if any, in this endeavor.

I'd sure love to see it expanded. I'm still a beginner in conlanging, and without any academic linguistic background, so the Diachronica has so far been my main source, or at the very least a recurrent starting point for learning about historical sound changes - sort of as a "Wikipedia of sound changes" if you will. So, any added features and improvements would get my support.

Yes, please! I use the Index all the time, so I’d certainly appreciate any improvements. [:)]

I'd definitely be interested in an update. I saw some of the ZBB proposals, and they looked pretty good (bradrn's "source tier" suggestion and Moose-tache's suggestion about "collaborative tiers" recently definitely seem like a good addition to any update, as well as the ideas about sources, Wikipedia style)

I tend to use it as well, and I do quite like when sound changes are shown in context. PIE → Armenian *dw- → erk- is great on its own, but what about *tw or *dhw? Or other stop+*w clusters? So even more of that sort of thing would be so good

But yeah, an update like the ones proposed already would be awesome! [:D]
You can tell the same lie a thousand times,
But it never gets any more true,
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.
