A One World Language

Post by tikoo »

English is the world language of commerce and accountants. Reject.

All conlangs have potential to be adopted as universal language. Please submit your proposals to the Bahai. Their prophet at first suggested the language be Arabic and then revised this to Esperanto. His request for a one world language of peace is yet to be met.

Leaving aside the point about English, what's the point behind this thread? Are you asking users to submit conlangs to the followers of the Baha'i faith? Why? And why here, where chances are it'll never get much further than this forum? Wouldn't this be something the Baha'i community would reach out for on their own terms?
You can tell the same lie a thousand times,
But it never gets any more true,
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

agreed with sangi.

also, english isn't the language of accountants. it is already the language of everything: science, programming, fandoms, pornography, conworlding (have you seen a 'conlangs en español' group? they suck), etcetera. the world already has a language, bub. and it came about the only way a world language could when the anglos conquered the world.

bub is short for bubba, which translates as friend or 'togetherness-human'. bubba is likely of African origin.

I've had some interaction with the Bahai. They are officially content with Esperanto as their chosen aux language. I suppose most Bahai have no concern for this. Most Bahai are Americans.

I am wondering how might anyone's conlang be suitable for a one world language.

Oh, that's cool. I just had heard it from like X-men cartoons.

I don't think any conlang -or natlang- is more suitable to be a one world language than any other. it's power that defined these things. I don't think English is special or different in any way other than being the language of the guys who were more effective at colonizing the rest of the world. do you think some languages are more or less suitable to be international? maybe this is why I have never had much of an interest in international auxlangs, personally... any human can speak any language, and it doesn't look like any language is inherently more easy to learn than any other (other than by virtue of being similar to a language you already know).

In Southern and rural and Western US American English,
Bubba comes from baby-talk for brother.

That's one theory. However, Bube is also German for 'boy', and is found in Pennsylvania German as 'Bub', which seems a bit too coincidental. Then again, 'bub' (if not 'bubba') may simply be a mishearing of bud (friend or colleague).

I dstinctly remember hearing a young boy call out [bwaba] to his older brother while he was standing up in a shopping cart. I think its not so common nowadays, but all that matters is whether it used to be. the baby talk theory makes perfect sense to me, and parallels the use of Sissy as a girl's name originating from a baby calling for their (usually) older sister.

There's a religious language from Africa referred to as The Royal Language. I first heard it from a singer and kora player who had learned it in the South Georgia Sea Islands (USA). He sang with the sound of baby babble. I think the story of that area is a slave ship grounded there, and so that's where some Africans lived unbothered for many years.

I travelled once camping and lingering near there. An old man approached me at the store. He taught me a traditional and lovely melody for the banjo. It has the rhythm of waters.
