Fredauon Fun Fact #46:
For the longest time, the currency in the Wizard Republic is based on groats (Groschen), crowns (Taler) and guilder (Gulden). 120 small silver groats correspond to a gold-based guilder and 24 groats correspond to a large silver crown. In some periods, the crown was equal to thousand small angular copper coins with a center hole, which went by many different names.

How much bigger are they than normal ostriches?

I was thinking of Pachystruthio (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachystruthio). So 3.5 m instead of 2.75 m, that's 0.75 m bigger.

Fredauon Fun Fact #49:
A secular successor of a splinter group of the minority religion in the Wizard Republic known as Five Of One (https://cbbforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=319776#p319776) once established a seperatist movement based on collective ownership, free love, and draconic punishment for treason. Its success only lasted for a relatively short time before they were invaded and defeated by the Wizard forces.

This is at least partially inspired by the Münster rebellion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%BCnster_rebellion), btw.

I am wondering what I should do for the 50th post. I was thinking that it should be special. Any ideas?

Maybe something long and interesting? Or a story or illustration?
Or something that you don't consider a mere "fun fact," but actually extremely central.

I might use an AI-generated picture of something. Maybe architecture or the like.

I know that I can't come up with a (long) story, so I wondered what it means to be a central fact. I came up with the following.

Fredauon Fun Fact #50 (50th jubilee special: behind the scenes)
Wizard science is based on superseeded or obsolete theories from *here*. This includes:
  • Vitalism, as there is an element that embodies the vis vitalis
  • Caloric theory, as there is an element that is the substance of heat
  • Phlogiston theory, as there is an element contained in all combustible matter
  • Atomic theory, as atoms are really not composed of smaller particles
  • Neptunism, as water shapes geological forms and causes earthquakes, volcanos are assumed to stem from seam fires
  • Lamarckian evolution, as acquired traits can be inherited and vis vitalis causes structures to become more complex

In Magic Systems thread you wrote that vis vitalis is real and it's used to make machines moving.

Yes, I have mentioned some of these before. I was not trying to imply that wizard science is wrong about any of these.

I figured since some of you wanted to hear stories from Fredauon, I could just post some in-world mythological stories that I already have.

Fredauon Fun Fact #51
Here is a story that is commonly circulated in the very northeastern interior of the Wizard Republic. It seeks to explain the origin of the sun, daytime vs. nighttime and the beauty of the sunrise. Father moon is a mythological figure that is often considered the highest deity. The sunrise girl is similarly mythological and seen as a fertility goddess by many.

At the beginning of time, the world was a dark and gloomy plain. The earthly human was lonely and sad. When Father Moon saw this, he sent his daughter down to earth. She came down from the moon and, as she touched the ground, flowers began to sprout and springs began to bubble. Valleys formed where the rivers flowed and forests appeared where the trees grew. She crossed the land from east to west and the sun began to rise. Since then, the daughter of the moon has been called the sunrise girl. But when the sunrise girl wanted to ascend back to her father, her father did not have the heart to leave the earthy humans alone in the dark again. And so the sunrise girl was now also trapped on earth, lonely and abandoned. But every morning she delights the earthy humans by doing her duty.

Fredauon Fun Fact #52:
Swamp eels are finless fossorial fish that are found in wetlands, such as bogs and swamps on Fredauon. They spend most of their life digging underground but - since they breathe air - they need to come up from time to time. In times of flooding they are able to swim to the surface.
