The Language of the Hawks (my first sentence)
The Language of the Hawks (my first sentence)
As a celebratory translation challenge for my first fully developed proper sentence in Teskwan, I give you:
Teskwan:
ha tăsko-at tyn kăp-udum
[ha təsʷkʷʰatʰ tʰɨn kʰəpʰud̥um]
ART.NOM.PL.F language-NOM.PL.F ART.GEN.DU.M hawk-GEN.DU.M
"the languages of the hawks"
This can be translated literally or as a metaphor for a kind of acerbic or highfalutin speech, but in the dual case, it is generally understood to be the kinds of language that two paired hawks use together, which takes on the connotation of "inside jokes that married couples or close friends use". As the meaning depends on the usage of case, it is difficult to translate into an equivalent metaphor, but the meaning can be gleaned from context as to be translated literally in a scientific magazine, or metaphorically in a romantic story.
You can provide the gloss, pronunciation and any inspired cultural meaning or details that are not covered here.
If there are no hawks in your conworld, use a similar bird-of-prey, or substitute an equivalent animal from your conworld.

Kobardon
unibardon brábus

3.POSS-language-DEF.SG fruit_bat-DEF.PL
'the language of the fruit bats'
Literal meaning, no metaphor here. Also, no hawks, but fruit bats are maybe similar?
