I agree. I'll try a slash, or perhaps just making a larger dot.

/a/ is the most common sound, actually. You do have a point. I may also switch it with r, the simple circle.

Yes, I'm quite satisfied with the way the characters turned out - similar looking enough that they have a uniform style, yet distinct enough that there is little room for ambiguity. I actually like it written better freehand than as a font on the computer, just because there is more room for elaborate tails and whatnot. So yes, I agree, it is very easy to write. :D
