How about klezmer? Klezmer is Jewish music.

Ahhhh, I understand now ─ you mean music that is connected with the ethnic heritage of (most) Jews. I looked up klezmer to learn more about it, and may listen to some once I get a chance (in school right now).

Re: What are you listening to/watching?
So, my general interest in music can summed up as: is it stringy? (It's a bad description of what I like.)
I'm not really sure how else to put it. I have lots of favorites as far as world music goes (I'm not so up to date in western classical of all things).
Two of my big loves are 80s-90s style lofi (I like Stauber (typical); honestly I can't stand a lot of modern lofi motifs), and Middle Eastern music.
Anyways, some finds (I think they're all Kurdish):
https://soundcloud.com/mohamad-fromand- ... zay-taza-1
https://soundcloud.com/danakolan-2/razazi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWzyeYu2d90
Last one is a poem from Rumi.
I'm tend to find a few pieces of music I like and mull over them rather than search out song after song. So I tend to have read more about a style than I listen to it.
Edit: Oh wait today's Norwuz.

Postman Pat is one of the most wholesome shows there is.

Also, can I add that season 1 of Postman Pat is lovely? For one, unlike a lot of shows, it happily involves the different seasons, instead of just summer. Everything is wholesome, but realistic in a way. And episode 13 is pleasantly subversive of the other episodes, making a good season finale.

Re: What are you listening to/watching?
Not technically listening "right now" but I sometimes like to listen to shortwave radio. East Asia (Korea, Japan, and LOTS of PRC stations can be heard in the morning where I live in the US, and Europe (mostly Romania) in the evenings.
Cuba's propaganda station (and the US's propaganda station pointed at Cuba) come in loud and clear here on the gulf coast at all hours, and I also like listening to Cuba's numbers station.
I learned about the assassination of Shinzo Abe over SW.

Ripley
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
"Ripley" is so striking visually, with a focus on the interplay of light and shadow that is echoed in the main character's fascination with Caravaggio. It feels as if every single shot has been meticulously composed. The series builds tension and humor through methodical repetition, taking time to show every detail of Tom Ripley's attempts to hide his crimes.
"Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver" is the second part of the movie I reviewed a few months ago. The two parts should have been one shorter movie, which would have improved the pacing. "Part One" feels like the first two acts of a storyline. "Part Two" is Act 3, except this third act is almost as long as the other two combined. It was certainly action-packed and exciting to watch, but I wanted more character development. There was surprisingly little for a combined runtime of more than four hours. Even if it's not intentional, the antagonist suffers a bit of a threefold death — impaled, beheaded and incinerated — which was kind of neat.

I have no idea where this fits.
Really really unique video game OST from the 2010s. Really good. Also the lyrics are in Polish (the supreme language for Slavic nonsense poetry) if any of you wanted to know.

Soviet? "Armenian Alphabet" Cartoon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I34ErMvbD6Y
This is a really old cartoon presenting a mythologized account of the creation of the Armenian alphabet.
The animation isn't so hot, but the symbolism is fantastic. The shapes of people based on manuscript illuminations. The bells being reached for by the hands that can no longer reach them. This is not even factoring in the religious symbolism. The ways it uses just crosses, for example, is phenomenal.
Not sure when it was made though. It looks Soviet.
Highly recommend watching.

- Unedited Footage of a Bear is a metaphor for opiod addiction.
- This House Has People In It is a metaphor for living together in a house with family, but not as a family.
Had to write these down somewhere so I won't forget.

Just when I think Japanese can't sound any more euphonic, I hear this song:
"Elect" by niki, sung by Evo+
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVFk7FdDsLA
I love this singer's raising of /e/, rounding of the back vowels (The singer, EVO+, is female, by the way, despite her deep voice).

Radio New Zealand propagating via grayline. Just before and after sunrise the ionosphere is in a transitional state that allows radio signals to travel along the day/night terminator. In the morning I can get stations from East Asia and Oceania.

Re: What are you listening to/watching?
The Netflix horror series “Archive 81,” which is an adaptation of a podcast. I enjoyed its application of Lovecraft-style horror to ‘90s technology. Unfortunately, “Archive 81” is one of the countless Netflix shows canceled after one season, and the season ends on a cliffhanger, so the characters are left in an unsatisfying position. Maybe I should try the podcast.
Spoiler:
Re: Chants of Sennaar
I really like what I've seen of it. About a year ago, I believe, I watched recordings of the game being played online, although I haven't played it myself. If I remember correctly, it features five languages which appear solely in written form. I felt like the developers did a good job of making the game accessible without having it be too easy. The languages are fairly "simple", and you don't need to have a background in linguistics in order to decipher them, but at the same time, I remember that the languages all felt distinct enough from one another that the game could still present a reasonable challenge. So, don't go in expecting something like ergativity, but also don't expect the languages to be just English (or French, given where the game was apparently developed & published) disguised by invented writing systems. Oh, that reminds me - I quite liked the aesthetics of the different scripts as well. If I have time, I'll try to refresh my memory of the game & return to this thread if I have any more relevant thoughts on it.
