I remember when Froogleyboy was creating this language", and translated about as "pese". I asked, "Is this 'about' as in 'I can't stop thinking about her', or 'about' as in 'It took about 15 minutes'?" He said, "All of the above, I geuss, a word is a word".Ossicone wrote:These were tough there is no translation for most of the meanings of about. My own language doesn't give all the uses of "about" their own prepositions. In English, for instance, we would say that this war is about oil, while in Kankonian one would say this war means oil. And for "not about to", Kankonian would simply use a verb that means "to have it in one to". On the other hand, the main word for "about", "hous", which means "on the topic of", can also translate "concerning", "regarding", "on" (a report on snakes; work on the report), "with" (help with my report on snakes; fascinated with fire), "of" (a picture of our dog; afraid of ghosts), "over" (fight over the remote), "in" (interested in photography) or "to" (back to work). As a verb, it can mean "to concern" or "to deal with".

Re: About
Yeah, prepositions are pretty devious. To have the same usage just screams 'cipher!' Also, the fact that he wanted to go word by word to create a lexicon was also... misguided. :(Khemehekis wrote:I remember when Froogleyboy was creating this language", and translated about as "pese". I asked, "Is this 'about' as in 'I can't stop thinking about her', or 'about' as in 'It took about 15 minutes'?" It's also good that not all the meaning are just distributed to other prepositions. Is the verb for 'about to do something' similar to 'acabar' in Spanish? My own language doesn't give all the uses of "about" their own prepositions. In English, for instance, we would say that this war is about oil, while in Kankonian one would say this war means oil. As a verb, it can mean "to concern" or "to deal with".
In Inyauk, 'about to do something' is indicated with aspect on the verb.
Or 'about 50 days' is indicated with an article 'some fifty days.'

'zoniak' is a loan word. There is no 'z' or 'o' in Inyauk.
So this is how the Zoniak got their name? Are they a police state?
Zoniak is the temporary name I have given the people. It is not their actual name. I use it because it was my favorite word I had from their language at the time. They are a monarchy. The police are separate from the military and the ruling family. Zoniak technically refers solely to the police.
I got the word Zoniak from watching too much Basque tv (From the Basque region, in Spanish. I only wish I could understand Basque.). There was a banner on the wall saying 'Zorionak zuri!' My bad memory morphed the word 'zorionak' in 'zoniak.'

Re: About
Yes, "mai" works in a similar way to "acabar". It can be conjugated for tense. And to say "not to be about to do something", one uses "os" (not) with the verb "zepet" and the preposition "ad". "Zepet" means "to have it in one to", and always takes "ad", much as "abide" requires "by" to mean "obey" in English.Ossicone wrote: It's also good that not all the meaning are just distributed to other prepositions. Is the verb for 'about to do something' similar to 'acabar' in Spanish?
Also, "veye", which is defined as "about, approximately, in the ballpark of" is an adverb.
Wow, Kankonian doesn't even inflect verbs for aspect. To say "listened", one says "baizarten". To say "was listening", one says "baizarten safga", "safga" being an adverb that basically means "in the process of".In Inyauk, 'about to do something' is indicated with aspect on the verb.
