Fredauon Fun Fact #36:
The secret society known as The Black Angels operates on all of Fredauon. They were originally founded in the area south of The Great Mountains and their ideology assumes a natural balance between good and evil. They usually restrict their operations to assassinating leaders of winning parties in wars. They see the victory of the Wizards in the Great War as their biggest failure. Even though they are of multiethnic origin, they have their own language used only among themselves.

Why not The
Gray Angels?
Also reminds me of the necromancers from Diablo.

Well, black as in operating in the dark or in secret, I guess. Haven't heard of the necromancers, will read up on it. The Black Angels are of course at least partly inspired by the Jedi in Star Wars.

I guess the necromancers are more about balancing the cycle of life and death come to think of it.
So do the Black Angels try to destabilize the Wizard Republic?

If they like balance, why assassinate a leader and perpetuate a war?

Well, the Black Angels don't have a cyclic conception of time. It's more static or transformation, similar to the ideas behind the Translatio Imperii.
I wouldn't say that they were destabilizing it. They tried to weaken it because they would always prefer a draw to a victory.

Well, I guess they wanted the Great War to end but they wanted it to end in a draw not a victory. That was the purpose of their assassinations.

Interesting. If so, do they like some kinds of democracies above others?

I am not sure yet how they define good and evil. They would need to do this in order to make the concept of balance useful. The definitions are probably subject to change in-world and might also depend on the opinions of the current leader. Btw, I am tempted to say that the title of their leader is the Old One Of The Hill or the Master Of The Hill or something like this.

Fredauon Fun Fact #37
Certain parts of Fredauon are very rich in aeroplakton. This includes several species of balloning animals, such as small flying spiders, mites and caterpillars, as well as roundworms, and spores of quillwort trees and ferns.
During certain seasons this areal phenomenon is highly visible for the human population. In certain aeras aeroplankton serves as food for airborne filter feeders such as land sponges and specific species of flellyfish.

I’m assuming wearing a filter mask is in order for the local residents.

I guess that depends on the height that the aeroplankton occurs in. When it's higher up, people will see it but not feel it. I was thinking of it being closer to the dust in the Sahara Air Layer *here*. If it comes down on an inhabited area, it might cause problems for people with asthma or allergies but not in general. Reading up on it, there might also be incidents of 'spider rain' or Altweibersommer (a season where lots of spider silk/gossamer falling from the sky).

If there’s a chance I could literally breathe in spiders I’d definitely wear a mask.
Now I know what a mass ballooning event is but I wish I didn't.

Maybe it's better to just stay inside.

Fredauon Fun Fact #39
The New Capital City of the Wizard Republic was planned in the Era Of Isolation and the Era of Reconciliation with private motorized vehicles in mind. The city features no four-way intersections, no left turns, only one-way streets and lots of bridges. Since it is mostly inhabited by national government officials there is, however, not a lot of private traffic.

Why no left turns?

Left turns at an intersection are dangerous and a major cause of accidents *here* and probably also *there*.

Gosh I love those. Archaic trees are a love of mine.
You know, why don't we put Monsanto to good use for once and get them to GMO that instead.
