Fear and Loathing in the Evancyan Imperium

Post by bimbjybern »

Preface

Hello all! I am Bern and I have taken the plunge and decided to share with you all a worldbuilding effort I have been undertaking for several years now alongside some friends. I think it's important that I inform you that I started making this project at the age of 16 and - while I will be making some changes for these posts - it will be presented more or less as I built it originally.

It should also be noted that I have been heavily heavily inspired by primarily the United States, Britain and Japan in the mid-20th century when making this. As a result I will be using pictures from the real world throughout, I hope you can use your imagination to fill in where the real world and Evancya differ! You will undoubtedly come to realise this as you read it, it can be pretty obvious at times. [>_<]

Lastly, as mentioned, I built this planet alongside other people who have made their own planets as part of a collective worldbuilding effort we call the Kalooki Corner. I shall only be presenting my own planet for now, but other planets will be referenced quite heavily. These planets have their own lore and maybe one day I can convince them to share theirs also!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy! Now, onto the good stuff...

What is Evancya?

Evancya, known presently as the Unitary Imperium of Evancya, is a planet with a surface area of 5.8 billion km². It has a mass of 3.683 × 10^26 kg, a mostly temperate climate and eight moons - of which seven are inhabited. It also sports a huge orbital ring, a giant driveyard built by the engineering geniuses of Evancya itself as a means of projecting power and permitting easier construction of ships and trade with the rest of the galaxy.

Image

It is the home planet of three main species that are most commonly split into two categories:

The Blue Evancyians (known as Homo Idaeum) and the Green Evancyians (both the Netraxi and the Populorf).

Blue Evancyians form roughly 64% of the 30 billion population of the planet, with the Green Evancyians making up around 35% with others being just 1%. The Blue Evancyians have, as one might expect, a bluish tint to the skin as well as long pointed ears and hair that grows in any colour you can imagine. They are tall, standing at an average height of roughly 6'9 for men and 6'6 for women. Portrayed generally as tall, elegant and imposing, the Blue Evancyians are the poster children of the planet.
Image

The Netraxi meanwhile have a light green skin, and sharp fangs that jut up from the bottom of their mouths. Standing at an average 6'7 for men and 6'3 for women, they are notably shorter than Blue Evancyians. But they are usually hardier, with tougher skin and a greater muscle building ability. Much like the Blue Evancyians they also sport pointy ears, though they often aren't as long as the Blues'.
Image

Finally, we have the Populorf. Covered in a dark green, almost scaly skin, the Populorf also sport webbed hands and feet that make them perfect swimmers. While historically this has inhibited their ability to utilise some tools or appliances, great advances have been made in accommodating these unusual appendages. They too have pointy ears, but rather than the typical ear shape they look more like a fish fin.
Image

These three species exist in a hierarchy of power and acceptance, Blues on top and Populorf on bottom. Blue Evancyians have maintained their power through centuries of harsh segregation laws, restricted access to education and economic opportunity and of course a good amount of political silencing and voter intimidation. Signs over water fountains stipulate 'Blue' or 'Green' only, children are made to attend different schools, hospitals are restricted access to specific species. Efforts at reform of the segregation system have largely either failed or proven toothless thanks to the powers of an entrenched reactionary elite of Aristocrats and Savothites that have retained a vice-like grip on politics for centuries.

Yes, there is an aristocracy. Dukes, Lords, Ladies, Barons, Marquesses, you name it and they're present in the House of Peers. Standing tall above everyone though is the Imperial Family and reigning Emperor Talbuth II. Praised as being the direct conduit of the two Gods - Lightness and Darkness - the Emperor is revered and retains important political powers at this time. Generally though, the affairs of government fall on the shoulders of the Grand Chancellor and his cabinet alongside the House of Representatives and House of Peers.

The Planetary Government then has to interact with the Regional Governments and their legislatures - who offer interpretations of legislation passed at a planetary level that determine how the law is implemented within that region. Finally there are the Judiciary and the Church of Determinism, both of which are appointed by the Emperor and his Privy Council.

Anyway, that's probably enough exposition for now. We begin in the year 545 After Great Awakening.

A Conservative Titan

Stannis James Valorum, current Vice Chancellor and leader of the Imperial Conservative Party, stands on stage before a mass of cameras. Bulbs flash, shutters click and film reels whirr as he waves triumphantly to the crowds awaiting the quiet. Over 140 years of work has gone to creating this moment and finally it has arrived, better than he had ever imagined. A stunning victory with 2,264 of the 3,500 seats in the House of Representatives being won by the Conservatives. Their former coalition partners in the Free Market Liberals have seen their seats cut in half - a far cry from the landslide victories enjoyed by them just a decade ago.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for this incredible mandate. This Government shall be in service to you - not petty political games and special interests. It is to you that we owe this victory, and so we owe it to you to address the problems of our planet and continue to expand the prosperity of our economy. I promise you a safe pair of hands free from the instability and infighting of the Outward Liberal Coalition. Thank you all, let's get on with the work!" the crowd cheers as Valorum finishes his speech.

With this landslide victory, over 30 years of Outward Liberal Coalition rule has come to an end. The experiment of Meniboff Parker has been finally dissolved and his once great electoral coalition finds itself adrift and unhappy. By the end of the Grand Chancellor Coolacher's term the contradictions of the coalition became too great and so it tore itself apart from within, with Coolacher resigning in disgrace as an ineffective GC that oversaw the corruption and fracturing of a once mighty political force. All was proceeding as Valorum had planned.

His Imperial Majesty's primary advisor and chief minister of civilian government, Grand Chancellor Stannis Valorum, 213th Earl of Campridge (PC, EC, KC) son of The Duke and Duchess of Barkenstoke and leader of the Imperial Conservative Party, in his official portrait.

The whirlwind excitement of the inauguration had passed, and now Stannis sat in the Chancellor's House ready and willing to enact his agenda. He had laid it all out in his first Holobox address to the planet, a new five year agenda for stability and prosperity both at home and abroad. First and foremost were his economic plans - the so called 'Bust Prevention' method of economics, focusing on preparing the booming economy for a gradual soft landing. Next, his commitment to free trade abroad and his plan to negotiate new trade deals with major economies like Ficko and Mascos as well as his promise to ensure the enactment of the New United Planets Charter as drafted by Evancyan legal experts. Finally, and by far most controversially, his plans for a new much more hands on and arguably aggressive colonial policy on the Moons, Bharatiya and Dagroth.
"Tetron is our most valuable possession. It is the base from which our great civilising mission on that backwards planet is both demonstrated and propagated with immense force. Every effort can and will be made to maintain our control of Tetron and to defend it from encroaching Communist aggression. Where we have brought liberty, freedom and justice to the people of Dagroth the demagoguery of Communism now threatens to eradicate it."
In just a few short weeks, the Valorum Administration had its first proposals before the Diet in the form of the Economic Stability Act of 545. Promising sweeping tax cuts, privatisation of a number of state-run businesses, further deregulation of the investment banking sector and other industries, the Act was almost the pinnacle of Valorum's bust prevention plan. By cutting government expenditure, in favour of supporting private spending, it was hoped that inflation would remain low and growth could continue as consumers drive the economy ever forward. But it was missing a key promise that Valorum had made behind closed doors to his more free market friends - the privatisation of the banking sector.

Instead, Valorum was expanding upon the compromise solution to such a controversial issue that had been born during the Parker years. Investment Banks would continue to be classified distinctly from what were termed 'State Banks' and had been granted the right to issue mortgages, loans and to hold equity of families just the same as any other bank but free of the strict regulation and oversight that state banks have. It had been an acceptable solution when the issue was first broached twenty years ago, but throughout the campaign he had faced strong pressure from backers both within the party and without to finally get the matter resolved. They had hoped it would be his first priority, given the enormity of the task.

He chose to defer the issue. When asked by his supporters why it hadn't been his first task, he would comment on how complicated the issue was and that "all the necessary steps" had to be taken to ensure the utmost support of the people and the Capitol. He warned them that if such a move started out controversial it would surely die in the halls of the legislature - it had to be widely supported, and he had instructed his staff to get to work on that he assured them. They would grumble at the delay, but they would accept his reasoning and take the victories they could in the meantime. It didn't take long for the Diet to pass the Act, the huge Conservative majorities in both houses assured it would slip by without amendment.

Valorum and his party seemed poised for decades of dominance. But events out of their control both at home and abroad would soon bring them back to reality.

A planet of that size should be a gas giant and have no humanoid inhabitants. But perhaps I am just tooting the wrong horn and entice God to kill another catgirl.

Don't worry, the science will get much worse than this! [:D]
It's just for fun, I've never cared to make any science behind it realistic.

This looks nice. Your geopolitics are a lot tighter than I've managed in my own conworld. Those darn Commies just keep popping up everywhere, don't they?

I use Science™ to describe anything that isn't rock hard sci-fi, which is most of what I do, to the extent that the name of the substance that allows FTL communication translates to "handwavium", or the cultural equivalent.

Thank you! I've spent most of my time on the politics of the planet yeah, it's the part I definitely find most interesting to explore. But I've done a lot with the economics and cultural sides that I'll hopefully get around to posting.

Also lol handwavium is good. Me and my friends have 'cosmic energy' and its own in-universe science behind it that we use to justify all the ridiculousness that goes on. It'll play an important role in the future!

No, I meant a catgirl. The <r> was a typo; I'll correct it.

"End the tyranny, power to the people!"

"Share the wealth, stop colonialism!"

"We won't be slaves anymore!"

These were but a few of the slogans that decorated the sudden protests erupting across the capital cities of Dagroth's 'Northern Alliance' members. All of them Evancyan-backed despotic regimes, puppets of the infamous Esteemed Dagroth Company. Before long these protests were joined by striking workers that crippled the local economies.

Image
A map depicting Western Dagroth, with the Northern Alliance in Green, the Union of Dagrothi Socialist States in Red and the Evancyan Colony of Tetron in Blue

In Mahlia, Gengen and Paia military force was dispatched to put down the strikers and protesters. Accusations were thrown at the Communist government in Dorf and demands for support flooded the Evancyan Foreign Office. Sandwiched between these two competing forces stands the Evancyan colony of Tetron, named here as the province Ho. Alarm bells rang all across the Colonial Office as the situation escalated and the order was given to put their meagre border units on high alert.

News of the deteriorating situation on Dagroth did not reach the Evancyan media. Or, if it did, it was quickly disposed of as typical noise against the backdrop of the Valorum administrations whirlwind opening days. Just recently, new trade talks with Ficko - the galaxies largest economy - had been announced. This week marked the opening of the Military Staff Conference, discussing the state of the Evancyan armed forces. The Evancyan Fashion Day had been scheduled, gossip about the Imperial Princess Helianthae's hippie antics decorated the front page of every tabloid.

To Valorum and his cabinet, this was ideal. Turmoil in the colonies would throw a spanner in the image of stability they had been working hard to paint. Any rash, destabilising moves could seriously impact not only the safety of the colony of Tetron but also the markets, who would surely react if war seemed imminent. So a decision was made that continues to baffle people. It was simple, they would do nothing. No help would be sent to the quickly collapsing northern regimes, despite their pleas. Tetron must be defended, and the best way to do that was by not provoking Communist aggression. The official line was simple: the affair was being discussed at the Military Staff Conference and until a decision had been made there, no intervention was possible.

It was only a matter of days until the states of the North collapsed into open civil war. Dictatorships fell like dominoes and armed Communist forces rose to fight the militaries occupying the land, in many cases military forces defected to the Communists en masse. Dorfian forces from the South moved in and took control of many border states. Now the press took notice and wasted no time in racking Valorum and the Foreign Office over the coals for this dismal failure. His line of non-intervention had failed, quickly and dreadfully. Thus the order was given for Tetron's forces to be bolstered with a number of Evancyan divisions and for steps to be taken to occupy bordering territory to protect the assets of the EDC and the borders were thrown open for any refugees fleeing war and Communist persecution.

By the end of the week satellite imagery had emerged of Dorfian units flooding north to support rebel forces all across the region, as their aircraft screeched overhead testing the borders of Tetron. General Secretary Ptolin Wang declared his regimes full support for his "fellow comrades in their fight for the revolution!" It seemed to many that the worst was coming to pass, Tetron was about to be encircled by a hostile Communist power. And Valorum was squarely to blame for it. At least things were stable at home.

Evancya's military leaders discuss the situation on Dagroth at the Military Staff Conference

As war raged on Dagroth, Evancya's leadership at home panicked. War would surely come for Tetron, after all the General Secretary had spent most of his time in power raving against Evancyan colonialism - if the moment of the Northern Revolutions was to continue, it would turn to Tetron. Old plans stored away in cabinets and chests were brought out and dusted off, revealing a complicated and vastly outdated doctrine for the defence of the colony. Timelines for trains, automobiles and airships to carry men and materiel across the colony and reinforce each frontier were clearly laid out in minute detail. Each step was accounted for, down to the nearest minute. Plan Orange, as it became known, was decades if not centuries out of date; but it would have to do.

Time was not on their side they felt, so it seemed more logical to simply modernise and rework this ancient plan to suit the methods and means of contemporary warfare. Planes could take the role of airships, helicopters the role of trains while tanks would replace cavalry. The only constant between now and then was men and materiel. And so long as they were being moved, that was all that mattered. This was the thinking of Supreme Field Marshal Lusitan Byrn, even while some subordinates complained of flaws and errors that could get thousands killed.

"Enough!" he roared at the assembled crowd of staffers all attempting to get their suggestions heard. "I have heard more than enough of our plans. Our decision has been made and it has, thankfully, been made in time."

As Evancya's military leaders debated outdated plans, the Mahlians faced the reality of modern war. Tombihai, the industrial heartland of the country and a major arsenal for the Northern Alliance had been encircled and sieged by Communist forces for a week. Huge, truck drawn batteries of artillery had been drawn up from Dorf and - alongside a sizeable force of jet bombers - had pounded the cities population relentlessly. Its defenders, starved and weary from the bombardment, gave up the ghost on the last day without any resistance. As the city fell, Secretary Wang met with leaders of the various communist movements in the region whereupon it was decided that after the success of their revolution they agreed to unite into the Union of Dagrothi Socialist States. What had once been a crazy right wing fear, seemed to be on the brink of reality.

Now, and only now, that the Staff Conference was over and Tetron seemed to be staring down the barrel of a unified Communist great power did the Evancyan military take any serious measures. Both the 2nd and 3rd Armoured Cruiser Squadrons of the Evancyan Cosmonavy would be sent to escort a small convoy of transport ships, bringing multiple new divisions and much needed supplies, to Tetron. They would remain in orbit and would soon be joined by the 6th Carrier Squadron, a force of four small escort carriers, that it was hoped would act as sufficient deterrent against Communist aggression.

Now the Warhawks in Evancya began banging every drum they could. Everything from sending an expeditionary force, to a full scale invasion and declaration of war to preserve the northern states and Evancya's assets in the region. In the cabinet a fight erupted between the Hawks, led by War Secretary Wilhelm Anderson, and the Doves, lead by Foreign Secretary William Gray. Wilhelm vs William, Anderson vs Gray. All the cards seemed stacked against Gray and his Doves in their battle for Valorum's mind. Afterall, Anderson had the entire military staff, significant public support, the backing of the Esteemed Dagroth Company and many others in the Trade and Commerce Guilds - not to mention his personal popularity among the rank and file members of the Imperial Conservative Party.

But Gray had a few cards to play. Firstly, the military was not ready for a full on confrontation with the Communists. If they rushed their forces in and failed, that would be a far greater humiliation. Despite the bluster of the military staff, this was undoubtedly true to some extent. Secondly, a good chunk of the ICP - as well as the opposition parties in the Diet - would not back a formal declaration of war and would waver in their support of an expeditionary force. Without political backing, Valorum would be staking his entire administration on success here.

Now came his ace; trade talks with the Fickoleans would be starting soon. Ficko, the largest economy in the galaxy, had gone so far as to send Vice President Daniel Fat for the meeting. It meant they were taking this very seriously and had, for the first time, given Evancya some proper recognition of its position in the galaxy. Everyone understood how important it was to make a good impression here, the markets had been in decline over the situation on Dagroth, but securing a good deal from the Fickoleans would undoubtedly restore the confidence of investors and business. The problem for Valorum was this: Ficko, a formerly Socialist state itself, was ardently anti-Imperialist. It had made the point multiple times to condemn Evancya's foreign possessions, indeed Valorum's recent proclamation to defend their imperial holdings had already delayed the talks. If they intervened now, on the eve of the negotiations, it could blow up the whole thing and send the economy into a spiral.

This brought the support of the Chief of the Commerce Guilds, Henry Morgan, on board with Gray's non-intervention plan. With Morgan's independent support came support from other cabinet members and so Gray stood toe-to-toe with Anderson. But it would all be for nought, as the cabinets decision was made for them. With leaks coming out that Valorum was considering intervention, a major intervention was taken.

His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Talbuth II, proclaimed publicly that "no intervention in the affairs of the Dagrothi is necessary or warranted at this time." Thus the issue was laid to rest. There would be no intervention, none at all, to save the collapsing northern presidencies.

CONTENT WARNING: SEXUAL ASSAULT

I didn't know if it was strictly necessary, but I felt it was polite to put a warning ahead of these next few posts. It's a heavy subject, but it is a vital turning point in Evancyan politics and history.

The cameras flashed as journalists called out questions that went unanswered. Two men, hands locked in a firm shake, with winning smiles stood centre stage flanked by the flags of Ficko and Evancya. It was a momentous occasion, the member states of the United Planets had sent their delegations to finalise the terms of the New United Planets and its workings; and Ficko and Evancya had just agreed to support the same terms.

"The Mascosians are proving quite intransigent on the commerce question." Stanley Moon, head of the Evancyan delegation, noted.

"Indeed. We can't get this done without their support either, so we might have to drop that clause." Exac Leiung, the Fickolean delegate, confirmed. "I think at the least we can suggest a weakened provision for trade standardisation."

"They won't accept the trade mediation body?" Moon asked

"No. They're worried we will work together, dominate the body and punish their exports as a result."

"They're still with us on the humanitarian body, though?"

"Yes, absolutely."

Moon frowned. The humanitarian body had been a capitulation by the Evancyans to secure the Fickolean trade talks. Moon had hoped that the commerce body would act as recompense for that. Instead, the Fickoleans had decided to dispose of it without much consultation with their Evancyan counterparts. They were still the top dog by a good margin and Moon, powerless and frustrated, had no choice but to accept it. Evancya had proposed the New United Planets, as a means of gathering support among smaller planets by giving them a real voice, and Ficko had hijacked it and mutated it from a simple forum of interstellar mediation into a bureaucratic nightmare of various bodies.

So be it. That was the way things had to be at the present. But they wouldn't play number two forever, no. Evancya's economy was in the midst of an unprecedented era of prosperity and growth, it was booming at breakneck speed and technological innovations were being made weekly that closed the previously enormous tech gap. And, unbeknownst to the Fickoleans, overtures had started behind closed doors to the Demarki Government. A rogue regime in the same solar system as both Ficko and Apporross - a victim of the brutal Mad Man's War that had left the planet shattered, before the rebuilding under the rule of General Endo Kimle.

The grand prize would be military bases there and, if they could be so lucky, Cosmonavy stationing rights. From there they would build extensive electronic warfare systems that could be used to target the Fickoleans and know their every move. A direct threat to Fickolean authority designed to be the first in a galaxy-wide attempt at cracking the Fickolean galactic order. A new multipolarity must emerge, but for Evancya to feasible challenge Ficko's authority it must first accept their dominance and twist it to their advantage where possible.

"Your breakfast, sir. With the morning's Times, too, sir." His butler gently set the newspaper, tea and liberally buttered toast down before him. Lord Harding, his long face drawn into its usual scowl, put down the Financial Sheet from this morning - events in Dagroth had sent markets into a slide, and things had only gotten worse. Pouring the tea and helping himself to jam on his toast, Harding soon grabbed the morning's Times to peruse. The toast dropped from his hands, his mouth agape in horror.

LORD HARDING ACCUSED OF ASSAULT
Netraxi girl claims Lord Harding, famed Imperial Conservative power broker, engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with her

"Oh dear Gods." he rang the bell for his manservant, who appeared immediately. "Pyle, has the phone rang at all today?"

"Yes sir, almost non-stop sir."

"Do you know why, Pyle?"

"Yes sir."

"Then why in the name of the GODS did you not tell me?!" he roared, flinging himself up right and launching the newspaper across the table. "You didn't think it was important I be informed of this IMMEDIATELY?"

"You expressly asked me not to disturb your sleep this morning, sir. I was merely doing what you ordered." Harding's face fell as he realised he had insulted a close friend.

"Right, of course. My apologies Pyle. Please, get Edward on the phone now and call the car round."

"Which Edward, sir?"

"Edward Montane. My chief of staff?"

"Very good, sir."

Harding sighed and rubbed his eyes hard. He then set about pacing around the dining room waiting for the phone.

"Shit. Shit, shit shit. Bugger, shit, fuck. That stupid fucking girl, that STUPID GIRL. How has this happened, how. She was an irrelevant nobody, why are they listening to her!" he muttered to himself as his wife entered the room.

"Dear? What's the matter, dear?" she asked, gently. He span around.

"Look at what I am accused of. Margaret, those damn liberals... they're spinning horrendous lies. The press, they're going to run with this... this... balderdash story, because they hate us, and they're going to try and destroy my career and our power in the Peers. That's what this is, it's a political attack!" he points, terrified, at the newspaper on the table. She picks up the paper and quickly drops it with a gasp.

"Darling... it's..."

"It's not true Marge! I swear, on the honour of the name of Harding, that it is a LIE." he moves to comfort her, but she instead backs away. "Marge, dear. Please, believe me."

"I... do... I believe you, darling. I... think I'm going to be sick." she leaves the room at a brisk pace, her face pale and expression horrified. Harding fell to his knees and clutched the leg of the dining table.

"I'm doomed." he whispered, and he began to cry.

Valorum had, of course, received the news first thing in the morning. Alongside reports of the collapse of the northern governments on Dagroth, stock market decline and the question of what to do about the permits for the Aquarius Music Festival, it seemed almost small fry. Well, not quite of course. Lord Harding was, after all, the unofficial leader of the ICP in the House of Peers and an extremely important politician. But Valorum, his mind so preoccupied with other things, hadn't even begun to comprehend what the news entailed.

That was until his Chief of Staff, Roland Giles, sat down with him to discuss the issue.

"Mr. Grand Chancellor... you do realise how serious this is, don't you?"

"Harding will get through this, it's just some baseless accusation from a silly girl. They'll get over it." Giles sighs.

"No, sir. This will erupt in the Diet in no time, they will demand Harding excuse himself from all business until it's settled... and what if it's true?"

"Don't propose something so ridiculous."

"We all know what Harding is like, sir. He has a... reputation, certainly among the staff."

"What reputation? I've never heard of anything like this. No, Harding is a good man. Always has been, since our days at Oxbridgeton."

"In any case we need to put something out there on it. It's front page news, sir." Valorum sighed and stroked his moustache.

"Well, we have full confidence that Harding will exonerate himself of these baseless accusations. How's that?"

"Alright, if you really believe he's-"

"Roland, I know this man better than almost anybody. He is not a rapist. He's a good chap, just a bit stern and that puts people off."

Unfortunately for Harding, and Valorum, this story would soon begin to spin out of control and spawn a crucible of troubles that would destroy any chance they had of passing their domestic agenda.

"And you're confident it was Lord Roderick Harding, that did this to you?"

"Yes." she answered quietly.

"And you are how old?"

"Sixteen, sir." she once again replied meekly.

"Very well." the well dressed Netraxi man, supposedly a family friend that she'd never met before, leant back in the old wooden chair of their cramped, smoke filled kitchen. His half drunk coffee sitting next to an ashtray piled high with cigarette butts.

"Rosalind, I'm going to help you. We're going to take this matter to court and we're going to get him sent to prison for a long time, you understand?"

"No, we can't do that. We can't! I don't want to be humiliated, sir. I will be remembered always as 'the girl that Harding raped' if we win and 'the girl who lied about Harding' if we lose. I don't want that, please."

"Rosalind, we can and will win this. You'll be a hero for our entire community and for victims of sexual abuse. You'll be celebrated, I promise. It's the right thing to do."

"I... I don't know sir. I don't like the spotlight."

"It's okay, I'm sure I'll be taking up most of it in no time. And please, stop calling me sir. I told you, I'm Yanof Tarto. So please, call me Yanof."

"And just how much will this cost?" her mother interjects "Cause we don't got a lot of money, Mr. Tarto."

"I'm doing this free of charge, ma'am. Your daughter deserves representation, and I want to provide it. Let's crack this case and get Harding in jail. No one is above the law they say, well let's put it to the test. Anything you may have said or agreed to with him at the time is void, until you're 20 you cannot legally consent to anything. So, it doesn't matter what he tries to say you said or did. It's rape, no way around it."

"Yes... I know..." her expression only grows worse as Tarto explains the situation and the invulnerability of the case. This isn't what she wanted, this isn't what anyone wanted. All of this had been forced on her and she truly, truly despised it. As long as she lives now, she will be inexorably tied to what happened. To that awful, traumatic event that she had hoped to forget for the rest of her life. Forgetting wasn't an option anymore.
